Anything that is comfortable for you will work. Cotten -- the weather is hot. An umbrella is handy. Comfortable shoes. Be respectful of local people's religion -- shorts are fine in resort areas -- cover shoulders (women) and dress fairly modestly in town. MOSQUITO REPELLANT. This is an area of malaria -- we did not take malaria medication but wore mosquito repellant all the time (instead of cologne or perfume). I went as far as purchasing a strong insect repellant (with mild aroma) from a Australia website -- we wanted to be certaini to be safe -- and we were. If you are in a hotel, there is no problem. Sand flies on beaches -- not many people went into the water. I understand there is great snorkeling on some outer islands. Plug adapters -- sunglasses --

A sarong is invaluable!

by TracyG

A backpack will come in useful and is the easiest way to carry your things. Malaysia is pretty hot and humid all year round, so light weight clothes are a must. Also, take at least one pair of long trousers for trekking in the jungle (to keep the leeches at bay!) A pair of walking shoes/boots as well as a pair of 'Teva's' will also be handy, and a good set of clothes for nights out. Depending on the time of year and area you go to, anti-malarials may be neccesary. It is also a good idea to take some re-hydration sachets with you. Kuala Lumpur is another great place to buy camera equipment, so you will have no problems here. But near enough anywhere else you will also almost certainly no be able to find what you need - stock up before you leave...... If you have a feeling that you would like to sleep out, under the stars, then take a mosquito net.....! A water bottle and torch will...

The climate in Malaysia is generally hot and humid. Wear light clothes. It’s best to wear long cotton trousers or shorts and cotton shirts or T-shirts. Long sleeved shirts are better because they keep the mosquitoes out especially in the evening. A hat or a cap will provide a shelter from the sun. Wear strong sensible shoes or slippers. Bring along medicines for malaria, stomach disorder, diarrhea and anti-mosquito spray (cream). It’s good to have a small first aid kit. Ask your doctor about health risks in the area and prepare yourself accordingly.

Take an umbrella and a raincoat with you if you go to Sarawak. Don't do as I done. I left my new raincoat to longhouse and of course just then during a jungle walk was a very heavy downpour and my clothes stayed wet all the way back home.

What type of clothes do you need to pack?? The weather here in Malaysia is generally HOT and HUMID. Be prepared to perspire alot here under the sweltering heat. So pack along clothes that will aid in cooling your body.DO NOT come to Malaysia (esp. if you heading to the East Coast of Malaysia and the beaches) during the Monsoon period i.e. from November to February. But if you intend to hang around the capital city, K.L., then no worries. You can come anytime! If you're going to spend lots of time at the beach, DO bring LOTS of SUNBLOCK lotion! Even if you forget to bring one, don't worry. You can buy it from any supermarkets or shops here. They don't cost a bomb. And yes, you can even find your favorite brands here like Coppertone or Body Shop or Hawaiian Tropics etc. O.K., here's something on currency exchange: No need to change all your money into traveler's checks or Malaysian...

Inexperienced travelers take note:Always carry your essential documents -- passports, money, credit cards, and air tickets -- on your person. Under no circumstances should you pack them, whether in your hand luggage or your checked bag. To do so invites disaster.

Highlands must bring

by labyrnth29

Genting is just a small place. You can go there in the morning and go back to Kuala Lumpur at night. If you don't plan to stay there long, travel light! Jackets, lip balm or chapsticks

Multi way adapter

by l_joo

Multi way adapter is a must as shown here. This is my adapter and my quick 15 minutes charger. The best so far.
