Went over to Pulau Besar, Malaysia over the weekend last week, and have a great time relaxing and just enjoying the beautiful beach, waves, general serenity.
Pulau Besar is actually an island located in Johor Bahru, and is easily accessible through Mersing, usually by ferry.
We booked our 3D2N fullboard package for only approx Rm300/pax! The room has air-condition, and was nice, with hot shower and all. For more information on resorts on p.Besar, visit impressions.com.my, their service is fast and they usual reply within a day.:)
The only downside : the many sandflies that have managed to take over the whole beach! bites can be really painful, and itchy, so do remember to stock up on sandfly repellants before you decide to go!

Anyone can do it! Just wear proper shoes, it's quite an interesting experience. When in Pulau Besar, ask the hotel staff what is there to do. Ask them to direct you to the hiking track. It's very accessible... Just take the path up and you will come across interesting insects, plants and if you look out, you will be able to experience true nature.
