Nasi Lemak , Food Court @ Surya KLCC: Nasi lemak

by KissRizz

Located at Food Court Of surya KLCC...very bustling Food court,.. Nasi Lemak: With roots in Malay culture, its name is a Malay word that literally means 'rice in fat'. The name is derived from the cooking process whereby rice is soaked in rich coconut cream and then the mixture steamed.Traditionally, this comes as a platter with cucumber slices, small dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, stir fried water convolvulus (kangkong), hard boiled egg hot spicy sauce (sambal). Nasi lemak can also come with any other accompaniments such as chicken, cuttlefish, cockle, beef curry (beef stewed in coconut milk and spices) or paru (beef lungs). Start your day in Malaysian Style with Nasi Lemak

Hawker Food Stalls: Malaysia's Popular Food

by SLLiew

In Malaysia, you can try out a diverse varieties of delicious and inexpensive local cuisines that are typical of Malaysian flavors at small food stalls or called hawker stalls. Some stalls are grouped into outdoor hawker food centers or at a typical coffee shop. Some hawker centers in major towns are non-Halal and so do not invite your Muslim friends there as they will only be able to order drinks but not food. If unsure, ask the locals first or scan the crowd and see if there are any local Malay patrons. What is great is that the quantity of servings of hawker food is small and so you can order several different types or you can request for extra empty bowls or cutlery and share with another or more persons. Need to note that Penang is most famous for hawker food and so you will see stalls advertised as "Penang Rojak", "Penang Char Koay Teow", "Penang Laksa" even if the stalls are in...

Penang - Dim Sum

by ant1606

Food in Malaysia is an extraordinary experience as it reflects the mix of different cultures that melted here. Original Chinese, Indian and Malay dishes also gave way to new recipes and the variety of choice spanning from plain to very spicy hot is simply amazing. On the island of Penang our friend Stacy took us to a colorful place for Dim (or Zim) Sum galore. Sunday lunch seems to be an eat-out habit for local families and this great place located in Jalan Anson is probably unknown to the visiting tourists. We definitely enjoyed being the only foreigners among the happy mass.I followed our friend through the tables and reached several counters, each selling certain specialties. She ordered one of this, two of that and so on. I admit that without a guide I would have chosen dishes "at sight" among, who knows, the 50+ available. This is the typical situation where the eye is bigger than...

Hard Rock Kuala Lumpur: Yet another Hard Rock Cafe

by Mel&Mike

Typical Hard Rock Cafe - the outside has a rather interesting entrance featuring people and a motor cycle. Unfortunately this photo doesn't do it justice. You won't find the Pulled Pork Sandwich here but you can try the substitute ---- Pulled Lamb! Overall the food is good for those Western food cravings.

Delicious Malay Food

by keeweechic

A delightful variety of food is available at hotels, restaurants and street stalls. Most Chinese restaurants offer a wide selection of dishes or your may opt for the very popular 'Steamboat' where diners actually cook their own food in a specially designed soup urn. A variety of uncooked sliced meats and seafood items with lots of farm fresh vegetables are served and diners put the various pieces in the soup until cooked.Malay food is usually spicy and rich as large range of spices are used to give it its characteristic tasty flavour. The most important of these are 'Belacan' (which is prawn paste), chilli, cumin, ginger root, coriander, saffron, turmeric, lemon grass, tamarind, and star anise. All Indian cooking is characterised by its complex use of spices to make even staple curries but is not always spicy. Dishes such as 'Kurma' have a base of coconut milk and reasonably mild. Yoghurt...

OIn the Streets: Hawker food

by DanielF

Dare to try the hawker food: it is very tasty and unbelievably unexpensive. Since all the ingredients are very well cooked, in principle, it is not unsafe for your stomach, although the use of spices may be excessive for the most delicate palates.

from the market: Tropical fruits

by DanielF

Delicious tropical fruits are part of all the breakfast selections at the hotels and always available in the markets and street stalls.Litchies, rambutans and many other varieties are delicious, but the durian is considered the king of all fruits. It is a sort of love-it-or-hate-it fruit, as it has a strong smell that to some people reminds of rotten eggs. In any case, its nutritional value is excellent, but its consumption is forbidden in some places so not to disgust the most sensitivie citizens.

by Cari_makan

Hi,I have tried many local foods & oriental foods when I was in Kuala Lumpur. One day, I visited to SOGO Kuala Lumpur although I have been there for many times, I have never been to International Restaurant Floor at level 6. Menu prices were inexpensive. I was curiously wanted to try their food then we had our lunch in Paradise Palace (Halal) Myanmar Restaurant. I ordered fish, prawn, mutton and two vegetable dishes. 1.
