KTM Komuter to Shah Alam
boocik04 profile photo

I guess the easiest way to go to Shah Alam from KL is by KTM Komuter. It serves 2 stations:
a) Shah Alam - Section 19 (southern part of the city)
b) Batu 3 - (nearer to Subang Jaya)
It is a rail transport and quite efficient as it escapes the notorious KL traffic jams!
From KL, get to KL Sentral and find the KTM Komuter ticket counter...

There are 5 different highways you can use to get to Shah Alam if you want to drive yourself:
1) Federal Highway
2) New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)
3) Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS)
4) Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
5) North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE)
The downside of it is that you have to pay different rates of tolls....

Take the Bus to Shah Alam

If you are not interested to drive to Shah Alam, you can take the bus from the Klang Bus Station. Don't be confused, as this bus station is actually in KL near Petaling Street and NOT in Klang!
RapidKL provides bus service to routes number 63 and 338 from KL to central region of Shah Alam. Or you can browse the bus station and take the bus that has the sign to Shah Alam.

Getting Around Shah Alam
boocik04 profile photo
boocik04 105 reviews

To get to other parts of Shah Alam is quite a distance from one another therefore it is advisable to take the mini bus. However, the ride you take is at your own risk as it equals to an F1 car ride!
The mini bus stops at major stops such as the PKNS Complex (where you can get to SACC and Alam Sentral easily), The Wet World, UiTM, Section 16, 17, 18 and the KTM Komuter in Section 19.

Typical taxi

Of all the great experiences I had in KL, not once was it with a taxi driver who tended to try and take advantage of this tourist.

Before coming here I did note some phone numbers from VT'ers who had recommended some taxi drivers in KL.

In her KL transportation tip, uysijessa wrote that Steve is the guy to call and I don't doubt for a minute that her experience was a good one.

Mine wasn't. I called Steve on his mobile as listed on uysijessa's tip and I got through straight away. I asked him to arrange a taxi to Shah Alam and he said it would cost RM80. I thought that it must be further there than what I believed so I accepted his quote.

Steve himself couldn't make the trip to Shah Alam as he was off to Melaka so he arranged another taxi for me. The other guy guy picked us up from our condo and within 45min we were in Shah Alam.

I protested that RM80 was too much for short-ish trip but he argued that I had already accepted the quote. I don't go back on my word so I had to (reluctantly) hand over the previously agreed fare.

Anyway, I will leave it to you to make your own decision on whether or not to contact Steve for a taxi.

Light Rail Transit (LRT)

LRT

KL's LRT is a fast, inexpensive and mostly elevated metro system. The LRT is not integrated with the Monorail (PRT) which can mean leaving one system and then walking across the road to another system.

There are two main lines:
1. Kelana Jaya Rail Line ( known as PUTRA)
2. Ampang Rail Line ( known as STAR )

An electronic control system allows you to tap your card to enter and exit via turnstiles. Fares range from 70 sen to RM2.80 and stored-value tickets are also available.

KL Monorail

KL's People Mover Rapid Transit (PRT) is a 16km elevated monorail system. The PRT is not integrated with the Ligh rail Transit (LRT) which can mean leaving one system and then walking across the road to another system.

It's a nice way of getting another view of the city as you are elevated over the roads. The tracks run from KL Sentral to Titiwangsa with many stop in between.

An electronic control system allows you to enter and exit via turnstiles. Fares range from RM1.20 to RM2.50.
