Fish trap converted to Lamp! by muddybok I had converted this decorative bubu into a lamp which can be easily place on any tabletop or any corner of the room. I stumbled over this miniature bubu (fish trap) on my last trip to Kuching (hope to feature Kuching page in near future). It?s certainly a great buy & perfectly satisfies after the conversion.

by keeweechic Jonker Street as it was known, is now called Jalan Hang Jebat. This is the place to go if you are antique shopping or just looking for some good bargains. –You can find authentic artefacts and relics. Some of these are collectibles and can date back as far back as 300 years. Singaporeans and expats from Singapore would travel to Malacca to collect bargains which were at great prices compared to Singapore. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Jonker Street, Malacca

While many good bargains can be found, you need to do you homework before you start shopping for particular items. For Europeans electronics may be a great deal, however for the average American the average price higher than home. Leave a Comment Theme: Computers and Electronics

I found shopping for clothes in kul lumpur extremely cheap.. It didnt matter where I went the bargains were there to be had.. The only down side would be the sizing is more geared to the asian market.. Try before you buy because you might be buying something that wont fit.
shoes, bags and clothing is what you should look for in malaysia.. Theme: Department Store

While Melacca was cheaper, now that they have moved the booths to a building the prices have risen to the prices at Central Market in KL. Like in most where, the better the location, the higher the prices. Deals can be found off the beaten path, however if you don't want to spend a lot of time shopping Central Market is convenient one stop shopping. Handcrafts are a great bargain, however if you trip includes Thailand you will find much better deals there. The flip side is, if you plan to go to Singapore, Malaysia will often offer the better deals.
Wood, hand dyed fabrics and assorted rustic items made from local palm are your best buys. For high end crafts such as pewter and silk I've written separate tips. Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

Particularly in Kuala Lumpur, shopping is a big business. We could see this from one shopping complex being built after one another. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

As for the 'knock offs' (fake designer items), they can be fun, many look nice, but you get what you pay for. The quality isn't there. Also don't forget that many countries won't let you bring them in. You might get by playing ignorance for a purse and watch, but buying a half dozen watches for your friends might get you busted.
Watches can be bought for as little as 10RM however some won't even work long enough to get home. The more expeicve ones 60RM are more of the quality you would buy in a discount store. The 200RM ones appear to be of much better quality, however are a far cry for the brand name quality. Handbags are another popular item, a small clutch may only cost 20RM will a large leather bag will cost up to 60RM. For the person who is always loosing their sunglasses, this is your chance to look cool for a few days. The average price will be 20 to 25RM. CDs & DVDs, some are great quality some arn't worth buying. Either way, these are the items that will most likly get you in legal trouble if you try to take them home. Buy it, enjoy it, leave it behind! Average cost CD 5 to 10RM & DVDs 8 to 12RM Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: The most popular place to shop is Petaling Street (China town) in K.L.

Many stuffs! Raw material, bags, shoes, jewelery, brooches, home furnishing, food and drinks. They also have departmental stores(fixed price). Everything is cheap. If your bargain skill are good u can get even cheaper. There are also stalls selling local delicacies. I have been here for many many times and was never disappointed.
