Market district downtown: Bargains for Knockoffs

by trvlhke

This is a market specializing in knockoff name brand purses, jewelry, and some clothing. Most of the booths have the same things so it's more about what you want to pay and who gives the best price. Polo shirts, watches, perfume, jewelry, wallets and purses I'm not a seasoned bargainer so I had coworkers do my haggling. Just have a price in mind and walk away if you need to. I got some 'Gucci' watches for US$3 and a wallet for about $10. Beware though. It wasn't until I got home that I found out that the Timberland wallet I bought my boyfriend said "Timberlard" on it. You get what you pay for right?

KL Towers: A New York Mall in Malaysia

by trvlhke

I didn't spend much time here but if you're looking for shopping that you can't find anywhere else I don't know if this is it. While the stores were very nice they were exactly the same as you would find in any large shopping center in the US or most other countries... complete with Starbucks. Authentic designer outfits and items Same as elsewhere

Times Square Mall: Another fine Shopping Mall

by SanguiniA

This is another enourmous shopping mall, and new by the looks of it. About a 3rd of it is still empty but I guess it will be full of shops soon. When I went there it was not crowded at all which made the experience quite nice.Shops in this mall are mainly high street stores and there is a huge Debenhams. At one of the top levels there is a luna park - complete with a roller coaster, zipping through corridors and near shops. High street fashionwear and accessories

Low Yat Plaza: THE place to go shopping for Electronics

by SanguiniA

This place is really famed for the electronics - and you won't be disappointed - there is really plenty to choose from and are all ultra modern! What really impressed me was the floor on which they were selling computers - it was packed and there were plenty of stalls outside selling computers as if selling sweets in the market - incredible. Computers - of all shapes, sizes and specifications were on display and my jaws dropped when I saw the prices - real cheap!Everyone was distributing flyers with the latest crazy offers!Any gadget you need you can buy from here - there are even plenty of mobile phones (no need to buy with a contract). As in the rest of Malaysia, rest assured that you will find plenty of English speaking shopkeepers ready to help you make your purchase!

Petronas Towers Shopping Complex: Trendy Shopping in KL

by SanguiniA

Coming from a really small island, any shopping experience is daunting for me in major cities - Kuala Lumpur was no exception. This shopping complex is very popular, being situated in KL's major tourist attraction - the mighty Petronas Towers. The complex is very elegant, and there are a range of stores where you can buy virtually anything, perfumes, clothes, sportswear and sportsgear, electronics, cds, furniture and the list goes on and on. Prices are good compared to Europe, but not as cheap as Thailand or China. If you are done shopping there are also various restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a good meal and relax your tired limbs - believe me you'll need it! Look out for the small stalls selling souvenirs, especially if you need something quick before you go - especially tiny (sometimes even twinking) Petronas Towers.

Wau ....the Malaysian version of cool kite ...

by kenyneo

This is truly a Malaysian handicraft and favourite past time as well esp. in rural areas. Unlike normal kite, the Wau can be as big as 2.5 metres for wing span and height measuring up to 3.5 metres. Now thats giant kite ! But dont worries you can buy miniature ones as souveniers. Why its called Wau ?It is called 'Wau' because the shape of its wing is similar to an Arabic letter (pronounced "wow"). The making of Wausimilar In making a wau, bamboo is used for the frame. The bamboo is split and soaked in mud for two weeks. This prevents the bamboo from being attacked by weevils as well as makes it more flexible. The bamboo splits are used to produce a complex but lightweight frame, tested with one layer of paper and making alterations accordingly to make sure the kite is structurally sound. The patterns are then meticulously cut from rice-paper and glued on piece by piece to form intricate...
