larva by yuet29 Before I came to Sabah, I thought larva is a kind of traditionanl food eaten by general sabahan. But actually it is not. The larva is a kind of food only eaten by Kadazan- the largest tribe in Sabah. It is found in the trunk of an old palm tree and can be eaten alive. They believe that it is clean even eating it in raw and the way to eat is putting the larva in your mouth with the larva head heading down your throat. Leave a Comment Theme: Local

by yuet29 If you travel to Donggongan, dont miss Hinompuka. This is a small coffee house/ restaurant situated at the ground floor of a mall serving all types of local food. You can get Hinava here as mentioned in the other tips. After the meal the boss will serve you a free bubur as desert. The mall is in between the tamu (market), near the KFC.

This restaurant just opened after 15 years and is situated in the Menara Tun Mustapha on the 18th floor - with sweeping views of Kota Kinabalu and the South China Sea. Simply stunning, @mosphere is retro-modern in design with funky lounge chairs perfect for sunset cocktails and late night drinks. The dining areas are extremely comfortable and warm - perfect for romantic nights or just getting out with friends to taste something different. When you walk in the doors here - you will forget that you are in Borneo!!
The whole menu is interesting with a lot of tempting dishes... Personal favourites are the lamb shank (it just falls off the bone) and the stuffed chicken (chicken can be so boring but this is just a big wow.) Desserts are also unbelievable - the chocolate fondant is to die for!! by yuet29 We heard that seafood is sooo famous in Sabah, so after the rafting, we happily decided to eat seafood that night! To save cost (as a student, we always do this), we asked the rafting tour guide about a reasonable price seafood restaurant and he recommended us this - suang tain seafood restaurant. We saw some VT recommend ocean seafood and saying the price is somewhat above average. After weighing, we think we should get a cheaper price restaurant...
The 'expected to be satisfied' dinner turned out to be an unhappy experience. The food is extremely disappointing.. the fish is not fully cooked, the crabmeat is sticking on the crust etc etc.. hawker stalls by yuet29 There is a very big open air hawker centre beside the Filipino Maket at night time. Local food are sold, you can find kuih-muih (cakes), chicken wings/ fish, fried noodle/ rice, soto beef/ chicken and deserts (ais kacang/ ABC) here. However, the food is not hygiene. Most of us suffer diarrhoea after the dinner. Very fresh seafood from the sea. You choose your meal from the selection of lively fishes in aquarium.

Check out the eels by runwitme Pick your own seafood from the aquarium. A bit like Portview Restaurant but less classy. Open air concept. Noise level can be very high. Nonetheless the food was great. Don't forget to check out the huge aquarium filled with big eels at the entrance of the restaurant. Scary but fascinating stuff.
I loved the creamy cheese prawn. The cooked prawns were drenched in light yellow creamy cheese sauce. Finger-licking good. We also loved the salt and pepper baked praying mantis prawn (lai niu har) which was accidentally sent to our table. : ) Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Next to Promenade HotelPhone: 088-264701Directions: Ocean Seafood Village No.4 Lorong Api-api, Center 3, Api-api Centre, 88000 KK
