    Atmosphere Modern Dining Restaurant
    4 more images

@mosphere, the modern dining restaurant on the 18th floor of Menara Tun Mustapha. It is also Sabah's 360 degrees revolving restaurant & bar.

If you dine at the restaurant, you can leave your car to the car jockey then head to the designated elevator to level 18. Then pick your choice of seats among the various furniture settings. From comfy sofas to futuristic chairs.

Try their signature mocktail, Atmosphere if you can't take alcohol. Enjoy the sea scenery or KK city view while sipping your beverage. The restaurant is revolving slowly and it will stop turning after 2:30pm. You really can relax & immerse yourself in the atmosphere here. The lights sometimes flashes in rhythm with the pulsating music beats.

Wowow! I didn't expect there is such amazing place in the "plain looking" cylindrical tower by the bay.

I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance - supercool. Comfy sofa. Designer chairs. Modern lamps.

It offers a sweeping 360 degree view of the Likas Bay and surrounding. It supposed to be Sabah's only revolving restaurant. However, when I was there (at about 3:30pm on Sunday), they didn't turn the rotor on. Not many people around.

We practically had the place to ourselves, until the arrival of a bunch of Japanese tourists.

If you have money to splash, they offer helicopter and luxury yatch tranfer package, with fine dining thrown in.

The next time I come here, I must make sure that I come for the sunset. They said sunset last longer on higher ground. Should be breathtaking!

Please click my KK travelogue for more pictures of Atmosphere!

Favorite Dish: We ordered some mocktails and Risotto balls with cheese. Yummy!

Kampung Nelayan Seafood Restaurant: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood! lol

    Cultural show
    4 more images

Kampung Nelayan Seafood Restaurant is one of many seafood restaurants in Kota Kinabalu. However this has got to be my favorite. It’s a cozy place to be, you’re not just there to eat, but to have fun, socialize, or watch an entertaining show.

There is a cultural show every night. If you’d like to see this, you will sit outside and enjoy Sabah’s colorful traditional dances. You will also get a chance to participate in the show; which is always good fun to watch, and to laugh at ;)

If you prefer a quieter and private ambience, you can request for private rooms. They call it the VIP room. It is like a dining room and a living room in one; there are couches, television and Karaoke set, etc. You’ll also have your own private washroom.

Favorite Dish: Hinava (local food), pandan chicken, yam basket, chilli crabs, buttered lobster, Sabah vegetable, garlic scallop, black pepper ostrich meat.

    Little Italy: Authentic Italian

    Pasta
    3 more images

This is the most famous Italian restaurant in KK. It is always crowded; with locals and tourists as it’s located in the heart of the city.

The staffs are very very friendly and helpful. They always suggest which food you should try. They actually know my name too, but then again I am a regular there ;)

Please make reservations if you’d like to go to this restaurant, so you won’t have to wait outside til someone’s done eating. Most of the time it's a FULL house, day and evening, 7 days a week.

Favorite Dish: Their pizzas. Also fettucine alfredo - classic! and their homemade lemonade :)

    The famous building
    1 more image

This place was simply amazing from the minute you walk in the door! A riot of colours and design - with a huge orange bar and comfortable couches and funky shaped chairs... I couldn't believe I was still in Borneo!! The staff was wonderful and the food was great - and reasonably priced. This was a real treat after eating in many local cafes and in the hotels (which are expensive and lifeless).

We went for sunset - which was truly spectacular - what a view!! After the sunsets, the restaurant starts revolving, which was fun - but the view isn't great after dark -- but it is ok, since the interior is so great. I wish we could have gone for lunch too.. but no time!

I really do recommend this place - it woud be a shame to miss it!

Favorite Dish: All the food looked good. I had the Oyster Shooters - chili lime vodka flavoured - simply delicious and adictive. For my main, I had the grilled prawns, which was served on risotto. For desert, the chocolate fondant cake - simply sinful!! My partner had the lamb shank - which was perfection - probably the best lamb ever!!

This restaurant just opened after 15 years and is situated in the Menara Tun Mustapha on the 18th floor - with sweeping views of Kota Kinabalu and the South China Sea. Simply stunning, @mosphere is retro-modern in design with funky lounge chairs perfect for sunset cocktails and late night drinks. The dining areas are extremely comfortable and warm - perfect for romantic nights or just getting out with friends to taste something different. When you walk in the doors here - you will forget that you are in Borneo!!

Favorite Dish: The whole menu is interesting with a lot of tempting dishes... Personal favourites are the lamb shank (it just falls off the bone) and the stuffed chicken (chicken can be so boring but this is just a big wow.) Desserts are also unbelievable - the chocolate fondant is to die for!!

  • Dot Cow Cafe: Try Hotdog meal for a change

    Dot Cow Cafe

This Cafe, simply named Dot Cow Cafe, is inviting with its decorations featuring cow figures, and small but cozy. The cafe serves light snacks plus decent meals that are popular among both teens and working adults.

Favorite Dish: Hotdog, which is the signature dish and is not merely a snack, as the amount and its contents are enriched to make it nourishing and fulfilling as a meal itself. Another selection is the range of sandwiches, western and asian combination food; namely Spaghetti, Pancakes, Ice Cream, Mushroom Chicken Rice, Curry Chicken Rice and the popular "Banana Finger".

    KING KONG STEAK
    1 more image

After searching the net for the top restaurants in Kota Kinabalu, we decided to try Brass Monkey ourselves and we were not disappointed!!!

The place was casual dining and the food was fabulous.
The steaks were truly tender, juicy and wonderful.
    It was perfect!

    http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2010/10/brass-monkey-has-best-host-in-kota.html

The dessert was also very good.

TIP: When going here, be sure to ask your taxi driver to pick you up at an agreed time as taxis rarely frequent the area at night.

Favorite Dish: King Kong Steak - with black pepper sauce.
The sauce made a huge difference because the black peppercorns were crushed to bits that was so flavorful but not overpowering.

Kouhi Nour: Kouhi Nour ! Great Indian food

by ajackaln Written Oct 29, 2010

Kouhi Nour is the name of one of the most unique and biggest diamonds in the world. Nader Shah Afsahr of Iran brought Kouhi Nour diamond to Iran around 400 years ago! enough with the history, there`s an Indian restaurant called Kouhi Nour which serves great Indian food near Kota Kinabalu port. there are several upscale restaurant in a row and Kouhi Nour is one of them. We ordered a huge meal which was good for 4 and had little bit of everything. Some of the food was very similar to the Iranian food and made me a little home sick ! :(

  • Brass Monkey: "Treasure" of KK

by JanBrunei Written Jul 25, 2010
    2 more images

This restaurant ranks as a 5 star eatery, even though it does not have the glitz and glamour!
The meal we had was superb, the customer service was next to none, and the feel of the restaurant was terrific.
It is a small open air restaurant located in the Lintas Plaza area of KK which is about 7km from the Waterfront area. It's a short cab ride to get there, but a cab home may take awhile, so a pre-arranged ride from your Hotel or cab driver is suggested.
The main component that makes this a true dining experience, is the owner, Raja. He and his family operate The Brass Monkey, as if they were entertaining in their home! He is extremely friendly, helpful, and a true professional restauranteur!
However, the highlight of our night was watching his 9 year old son (on school break) help out. This little fellow was amazing to watch as he helped the regular wait staff, took orders, delivered non-alcoholic drinks, and generally followed in his fathers footsteps! Great young man!
Fantastic food (must try the "Wagyu Beef), ambience, and customer service! A true "don't miss" on your next trip to KK!

Favorite Dish: We enjoyed the Aussie "Wagyu Beef" steak which was probably the best beef I've ever had, or very close to it. The flavor was fantastic, the texture was tender and juicy, and the accompanying side dishes were equally as good!.
Regardless of what you eat here, I believe any order would satisfy your appetite.
Also, do not leave before trying the Homemade Chocolate Pudding! WOW!

  • Brass Monkey: The Treasure of KK Restaurants

by JanBrunei Written Jul 24, 2010

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The food, ambience, and service rate 5 star for this place. No it does not have linens and silver, but you'll never get treated better, or have a better meal than here! Especially the Aussie Wagyu steaks. They are to die for.
The owner Raja, see's to each and every one of his "people" (you're treated like friends) as though you've been coming here for years.
This night he was short staffed, but still managed to visit every table to say hello and offer his assistance if required. The highlight, was watching his young son working in the restaurant as though he were a professional! Great young man and family!
This place is a MUST when traveling to KK. I think we'd come back here just to visit the reataurant and Raja family!

    Jan and John from Brunei.

Favorite Dish: Did I mention the food! Oh yea, probably the best beef you'll ever have, and all the sides are remarkable as well. Also, DO NOT leave before trying the Homemade Chocolate Pudding. Another masterpiece in the making!

  • Brass Monkey Cafe & Bar: Best steaks ever

    by Wayne57 Updated Jul 21, 2010

About a 20 minute ride from the Tajung Aru Hotel. The best steaks that you will ever have. Why go there for steak? Because you will not taste any better anywhere in the world. Cooked to perfection, service fantastic. The owner Raja is full of stories from his own travels. He'll join you at your table for a beer and treat you as if you are visiting his family home. The staff are excellent and ultra friendly. Amy is a sweetheart and very switched on.

Favorite Dish: Tenderloin steak and the lamb steaks. Yes, we went twice in 10 days such was the great food and service. We could have gone every night. The chocolate dessert is the best I've had and even though I was full from the main meal I couldn't resist it.
