I like eating satay a lot and as I live in Singapore I had many chances. When we spent some days in KK city, I also wanted to try satay in local hawkers. It was a great experience. Those delicious satay sticks were consumed rapidly by me and my wife. What about the cost? It's not worth mentioning, a bit more than what you pay for your drinks :)

Tuaran is a small town in Kota Kinabalu & Tuaran mee is a type of noodles made from flour & mixed with egg. It's usually eaten in dry type, ie. with sauce as seosoning. The noodle is rather spongy. You can find this type of noodles in local coffeeshop.

There's not many restaurants along the way to Poring Hotspring or Kinabalu. This is one of the few restaurants that tour operator will bring their customers here to have lunch. The restaurant is at ground floor and the place can be cooling when the sky is cloudy. Pine trees & mountainous view surronded the area. Upper floors are all accommodation for mountain climbers.

"The Sunset Esplanade" just across Promenade Hotel by the seafront features a stretch of hawker stalls offering delicious local delicacies and souvenirs. It serves mainly malay food like grilled fish, steamboat, tom yam, etc. This is a food destination for the locals rather than for the tourists, I guess. Some parts of the waterfront is dark and you can't see much of the water.

After your bargain shopping at Sunday Gaya Street Market, fill your stomach with a bowl of Sabah Laksa. In Malaysia, there's a variety of laksa or curry noodle. The variation is simply good.
Favorite Dish: I find this Sabah Laksa not so spicy nor creamy with coconut milk but has a tinge of sourness. It's quite different from the usual curry laksa with cockles & fried beancurd. It has some peppermint leaves as topping.

This place is in the food court of the Wisma Merderk building/shopping centre.
There are 2 ways to get food,
1/ get a plate of rice and serve your self - you get charged according to what you take
2/ Order a set dish.
Both are really cheap. The food is tasty, filling and satisfying

Coffee to go at the airport (airside) is great if due to the bad timing of flights, to check in you had to miss a meal.
This little place is great, has a good range of food and unlike most airport cafe's is reasonably priced.
At 8am I had the Curry Mee (a curry soup with veg, chicken, noodles and tofo) very nice it was too.
European food is available as well as asian.

This is the way to eat.
Its good, sooo cheap and fun too.
The night market here is food and seafood - direct from the trawlers so the fish is really fresh.
The people also set up food stalls where you pick your fish, they finish cooking it, you sit down and eat with the locals. Rice is provided as well. Really good food. Also available is Sate and chicken wings. The chicken wings are a must, they are messy to eat but well worth it.
