This restaurant (spelt @mosphere) is located on the 18th floor of the now named Tun Mustapha Tower (formerly the Yayasan Sabah building), the tallest building in Sabah. The restaurant revolves 360 degrees in 60 minutes. I went during the day and have been told to avoid dinnertime as the view is pretty much pitch black with a smattering of lights. Valet parking is available and I've been told that during weekends and holidays it's advisable to make reservations. I doubt public transport is available-take a cab. Also, I believe locals get 20% the bill as they can quite easily get a 'discount' card. Find a local, and go with them!
Favorite Dish: I didn't go for the food!! Had the fish & chips-passable, but you shouldn't be going there for the fare-it's all about the view.

Not 1 spot but many places all over the city, especially at night. Many people have their own favourites so I won't suggest any but you simply can't miss them, plus they can come and disappear all the time.
Most stalls tend to be pork-free so as to attract the maximum number of people, though there are Chinese areas stalls usually serve pork. Usually the selection of food is very wide as there are quite a few stalls to choose from. You'll also have your usual chicken-wings and satay stalls.
Food tends to be cheap (cash only) and quite delicious. Service tends to range from between rubbish to absolutely atrocious. Hygiene is a question of personal standards but I've never gotten sick from them. It's a must do, or you haven't really tried Malaysian food.
Favorite Dish: Anything really-there are almost always quite good.

When you like to spend a happy evening in an excellent seafood restaurant, you could go here. You can choose your "own" sea food", lobsters, shrimps, big or small fishes; they will prepare all this, when you are looking to a real and amusing Malasian music and dance show.
Favorite Dish: Deep fried seafish in a sweet/sour sauce with nasi goreng.

The surrounding area of the restaurant is very elegant and on the right side of Api-Api Center you have the Promenade Hotel.
Jothy restaurant is quiet, very clean and the staff very helpfull.
Favorite Dish: Going there and not eating the banana leaf it is the same as if one goes to Roma and doesn't see the Pope. Banana leaf is a must and for an additional fun go bold and eat with your hands. I also tried the Chicken nasi biriyani and mango lassie. All of them were fantastic.

OK, so most people visiting here would eat seafood--right? Well, of course there is a great selection of seafood at reasonable prices but you can't (or, at least I can't) eat the same thing every meal. With that in mind, consider one Italian meal at Little Italy. The menu is reasonably priced, the service is outstanding, the wine list is acceptable, and the food is very, very good. My companion and I had pizza, pasta, carpaccio, and a nice Chianti. I'm sorry my pictures won't load properly--they're too large.
Favorite Dish: The carpaccio and the pizza were both teriffic.

The food was great, and the ambience was nice and relaxing with pretty views of the jungle outside. On a clear day I can imagine the views of Mt. Kinabalu would be spectacular!
Favorite Dish: The roti canai with egg was excellent, as well as the tom yam soup and chicken satay.

We chanced upon this stall at the Waterfront boardwalk. It was the first one we saw and we were starving so we stopped here. Boy, was that lucky! It was by far, the best meal we had our entire time in KK. Cheap, but delicious!
I'm not 100% sure the name of the stall is Oregano Cafe, but that is what was on the guy's shirt so I figured that was the name of the place.
Favorite Dish: Everything ! We ordered almost everything on the menu, and nothing disappointed us.

Ocean Village serves the best and expensive seafood in Kota Kinabalu.
They have fish tanks here for display of live fish and seafood. Good range of shells and fish. Vegetables are also displayed. Patrons are encouraged to go choose from the display area. Seafood can be cooked in various manners and the Waitresses are knowledgeble if you are indecisive.
This place is almost always packed with tourists & locals during dinner. A lot of locals frequent this place, which is good because then you know that the food is good and authentic. You will mostly be able to get seated without booking as they have so many tables.
Service was good. Waitresses changes plates regularly.
The dinner cost us RM1k plus. But it was worth it.
Favorite Dish: We had a few types of prawns: steamed, chilli and butter. Buttered prawns was melt-in-ur-mouth tasty. Abalone and Groupa were fresh and sweet. We also like the local Sabah vegetable cooked with Belacan which is a local prawn paste(which can be an aquired taste). No dishes came out too spicy which is plus if kids are involved.
Coconut pudding, one of Sabah specialty is a must try. Tasted like soy beancurd with santan. Very yummy and refreshing.
