Haggle. Haggle. Haggle. by runwitme A great way to jumpstart your Sunday morning tour. Gaya Street market opens only on Sunday morning. I love the atmosphere. The colours of painting, handicrafts and garments. The sounds of birds chirping and people haggling. The aromas of local delicacies. Take your time to browse through the merchandise displayed and you might discover something you really like to take home with you.
Pets - puppies, tortoises, tropical fish, hamsters, birds, rabbits etc. FengShui figurines. Household Items Potted plants, fruit plant - lime, mango, even durian tree. Fresh flowers. Fresh fruit. Fresh vegetables. Souvenir items - key chains, bracelets, woodcarvings, seashells, T-shirts, caps etc. Local cakes and desserts
Cheap but don't forget to bargain. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Gaya Street

treasures from the sea by Wild_Orchid An interesting market, with stalls lined up in rows, almost like rabbit warrens, but with treasures and souveniors waiting to be discovered. A wide range of seawater pearls, handicraft, bags handmade from natural fibres, colourful pareos/sarungs, t-shirts, all at different prices & quality so you would need to look around and compare before buying. Tip for supershoppers: starting prices are always very high and you would need to bargain it down by about 1/2 or even less. Much cheaper than at regular shops, but quality & finishing could be different.
I bought a beautiful strand of small salt-water pearls (not perfectly round, but shaped like small seeds, off-white colour). Quoted price was RM60, and at the end, I paid RM50/US$12 for two strands! I can wear them twisted against each other or separately to create a longer strand. They match well with casual tops or with formal office wear. Pearl earrings, marked at RM45, but I paid only RM25/US$6 for the pair. I also bought some wooden household decorations. I did not drive a hard bargain and was satisfied with my purchases. Everyone's got to make a living. Downside: It can be quite warm and rather dark inside the markets. This is Asia, do be prepared to sweat a little. :-)
Different quality at different prices. Worth looking around a bit before commiting to your purchase. RM20-30 for a pair of salt-water pearl earings, various prices for crystal bracelets, but some could be fakes, so buy them at your own risk. You can also take a bus from near Shangri-la Tg Aru (runs about every 1/2 hour).

Wisma merdeka by yuet29 Wisma Merdeka is another department stalls which sell clothes, shoes and stuffs. The reason we get familiar to it is because of the money changer service inside. Other than it, nothing special about wisma merdeka. It is another outdated complex with little crowd. Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreAddress: Jalan Haji Saman

Kadaiku, which is accredited by the Sabah Tourism, offers high-quality shirts, sarongs, and home decors at very reasonable prices. Even the local food stuff that you want to bring home to your family and friends cost less here.
Must buy here are their T-shirts, which I think are exclusively made for them. They have the best shirt designs and material and they can’t be seen in other stores. They also cost less (24.50-25.50RM) than other KK souvenir shirts (30-40RM). The Sabah handmade chocolates are sold at only 16RM here, while most stores sell them from 18-19RM.

KK Plaza is located near the sinsuran complex. If you have not brought enough warm clothes for your Mt. Kinabalu trip, you can do your last minute shopping here. Some of the shops in KK Plaza sell real cheap warm clothes.. looks like rejected items but still you can get your size. For rm20 or less you can get a sweater here.
Fix price and pay in RM. Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreDirections: Behind complex Sinsuran

pasar pilipin by yuet29 Local call this market "Pasar Pilipin". This is a great place to grab some symbolic souvenirs such as Mt. Kinabalu t-shirt, key-chains, magnecs, local crafts such as batik, rattan items etc. The opening hour is from morning 7:30 to night 7:00 pm depends on the volume of the crowd.
The price can be bargained. But always remember, no point to be too harsh. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftDirections: Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen. You can see the stretch of one level building with sharp pointing up roof.

Centre Point Sabah by vincentf This is the largest shopping mall in Kota Kinabalu. Try the food court on the 4th floor, as it is cleaner than the one in the basement.
