Visited Tanjung Aru Beach ,on our way back to the airport.
Tanjung Aru is a sub-district of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. It also has its own township called Pekan Tanjung Aru. Other notable feature here is the Royal Sabah Turf Club, La Salle Secondary School, Terminal 2 of Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and the Tanjung Aru railway station for Sabah State Railway.
Sabah Air Helicopter Aerial Tour also stationed nearby. This place is also home for the Shangri-La Resort.
The main attraction here is the beach, which stretches to over 2 kilometres long.Sulug ,Manukan and Mamutik island could be seen from this beach.Stunning view on sunset, so so view on daytime. Not the best beach ,compared to other beaches in KK area , especially on the islands.
Not nice to swim, because the water is a bit unclear, and not too clean.
Observed some Wind Surfers at a distance ,and some kids just playing on the sand, many holes of Sand bubbler crabs (Scopimera) on the beach.
We managed to try the sea side food court , sells sea food , satays , grilled chicken wings, roasted peanuts and corn. But frankly speaking we liked foods in other places in KK ,in terms of quality and price.

    Sunset at Tanjung Aru Beach

Hawker stalls at Tanjung Aru Beach
    3 more images

Tanjung aru derives its name from the abundance of tall casuarinas (Aru) trees that grace the shoreline. The sunset is beyond words, so make sure you catch it.

A great place to hang out with friends & family. Watch the sun goes down as you sip coconut water and chow down on satay, chicken wings or hawker-style noodles. At this stretch of the beach, it is also the best spot to see airplanes taking off & touching down. You will see many onlookers parked their cars at the roadside leading to the beach.

At the end of the food court, you can see a row of stalls selling BBQ chicken wings and another row of stalls selling fruits & tidbits. If you want to sit down munching your food while watching the sun sets, please go early to reserve your best seat. It's near to the stalls that sell coconut drink. However, you must order the drink from them in order to sit there. Alcoholic beverage is not served here.

Stroll along the beach and watch the youngsters playing balls & the kids playing with sand & at times catch a plane on top of you. It's so relaxing. If you prefer eating with a drink or two, then head for those restaurants along the beach front.

    Sunset

Go there to watch the sunset, enjoy local food or just appreciate nature. The sun sets around 6-630 pm, its magnificent. There are small crabs on the beach. There's a hawker centre serving local food and some seafood restaurants.

This beach is frequented by locals and tourists. Its amazing clean with minimal litter. Good for families and couples. There were 2 separate couples taking wedding pictures on the day I was there..

It doesn't cost a cent. Enjoy this splendid place!

    Tg Aru Beach

Tanjung Aru Beach is one of the popular hangouts for KK people. Traditionally, they used to come here for food (of course) such as: satay, coconut drink, beer, tidbits etc. but it has now become a bigger area for family gatherings; more facilities added and also eating places. There’s a seafood restaurant, cafés, a fastfood eatery, and a food court. There are also souvenir stalls, a reflexology centre, and a tattoo parlour!

The beach itself isn’t that clean. Sadly it’s not really being taken care of. The KK City Hall do try their best at maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of this beach but unfortunately there are, still, irresponsible people that litter. There is a signboard at the beach that says ‘RM 500 fine for littering’ if I’m not mistaken but it is pretty much just a signboard. No enforcement going on.

Tho locals as well as tourists still come here for the cool breeze and the beautiful sunset. It is not a suitable beach to do your sunbathing, you can do that at our nearby islands.

At night, there are singing and dancing performances held here. For more pics of Tg Aru beach, check out my travelogue.

Sunset @ Shangri-la Tanjung Aru Resort

I love sunset and I enjoy taking photographs of it. I have discovered that Tanjung Aru has one of the best place to view sunset in Sabah.

For those romantically inclined, who can resist being in the arms of your loved one while gazing into the golden hues of sunset at Tanjung Aru.

    Tanjung Aru Beach

This is a long stretch of beautiful, calm beach, 5 minutes away from the airport. The beach is lined with picturesque palm and casuarina trees all along its soft, fine sands. There's much to see because here you'll find the Tanjung Aru Beach Hotel, the Kinabalu Yacht Club, the Kinabalu Golf Club and Prince Philip Park. A great place to beach jog.
