View from on top the hill

Head on to Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat...2 hours journey from Kota Kinabalu. You can either camp by the beach or stay at a local Rungus longhouse. The place is simply beautiful. Blue sky, blue sea and white sand...You can either chill out at the beach or hill top. Walk up to the cliff where there's a monument to mark the northern tip of Borneo.

The rungus longhouse

The Rungus is a sub group of the Kadazandusun, found mainly in Kudat area. Some are still staying in longhouses. The longhouses consist of separate apartments for different families, with a shared, long gallery. Some longhouses are accessible...but do check first if you can visit.

Attending other culture wedding ceremony gives you a whole new experience. I manage to attend a traditional Rungus wedding ceremony in their longhouse. (BTW, Rungus is a one of the majority group in Kudat, Sabah). Their costumes are very different from the Kadazans. The ceremony (that is usually will take one whole day) was held in Bavanggazo Longhouse, one of the main travelers longhouse attractions in Kudat. There are a lot of food, 'mongigol & sumundai' (traditional Rungus dancing, traditional games, and of course home made brewed alcoholic drinks (siopon and montoku).
