Friends from Mulu Tours

by AlbuqRay

Although there are different "show" tour providers at Mulu, the small groups end up being combined. You meet the same people, share the adventure and become friends. Almost inevitably you see them again at the Mulu Cafe. I met people from all over the world, including Brunei, Kuala Lumpur, England, and Australia.

something about Brunei

by cochinjew

There is a bus that leaves from Miri and goes to Kuala Belait. It is a lovely little town, quiet. you could stay there one night and explore the nearby kampongs and a river trip. check my KB tips. and then there are direct buses to BSB from KB.. ricketty buses but gets you there and very cheap. in brunei you could stay , see my tips on BSB, and see the water village and the magnificent mosques. you can either go to Labuan and fly out of there or fly out of Brunei via air asia to KL and then to Singapore that would be cheaper than flying one way BSB singapore..I enjoy the slow bus ride from Miri and for other reasons, like KB also. Brunei is an unusual country in that part of the world.

Forests and development

by SLLiew

When flying over Sarawak, one can see miles and miles of virgin thick rainforests, then clearing of logging of timber and acres of oil palm. The demarcation can be startling which makes one wonder how much rainforests need to be preserved, how much to be logged and cleared for development.Anyway, it is great to be able to see the natural rainforests of Sarawak and stay in 5 stars hotels at the same time.

West Malaysian Entering Sarawak

by SLLiew

In my first visit to Sarawak, I was surprised that as a fellow citizen from Peninsular Malaysia, I still need my passport and got a stamp with a limited conditional stay. Nowadays, you can use your Mykad identification and fill up a form or apply for Restricted Travel Document.Check this website - http://www.imi.gov.my/eng/perkhidmatan/im_DokumenTerhad.asp

Markets

by DanielF

While doing trekking in the jungle, we occasionaly stopped at local markets to buy some food. All of them displayed exotic products and delicious fruits for ridiculous prices. It was a real pleasure to buy our groceries there. These pictures are from the local market in Serian, a small town in the middle of Sarawak.

Borneo Designs

The father of this kid could be descendants of some great warriors. The unique tattoos have becoming popular among some Hollywood stars. There are more than 10 tribes of aboriginal living in Borneo jungles.

Dead Tree

by muddybok

You will see some dead trees drown in the lake or dam. This thing cannot be avoided in order to create more water catchments.Although I am a nature lover, but human needs are always been top (#1) priority. But that does not mean that I'll support slash and burn that commonly practice by some orang asli (native).

Hidden secret

by muddybok

You don't normally find these great picnic sites with clear road sign & mostly hidden by thick bushes right next to some normal express ways. You really need some local to show you the place & normally just about 2-5 minutes trekking from where you park.Be sure to lock your car before you proceed to picnic spot.
