by SLLiew One of the unique native food product of Sarawak is the sago palm. You can see the making of sago palm biscuits at the Sarawak Cultural village. They are thin, tasty and sweet and makes a good souvenir to buy back. The other food product is of course the famous Sawarak white and black pepper which can be purchased at most tourist souvenir shops.

Be aware that as Kuching is a mainly Muslim country, there will be bells tolling at some obscene hour of the morning (no offence intended) every day. So if you're a light sleeper, I might suggest ear plugs if you want a sleep-in.

Locals can be very shy but once you start a conversation with them, you will find them very forthcoming in suggestions and friendly. Speak to them in Malay, Mandarin or English.
