by yuet29 Everyone knows about Sarawak kolo mee. I heard about it before I went to Sarawak. Well, everywhere in Sarawak is kolo mee, so dont worry that you cant find this food. Kolo mee is a kind of local noodle, I never seen it in peninsular Malaysia. The noodle is kind of curly, top with some char siew, prawn etc. I found that different stall top with different thing. So I dont really know what is the standard topping. Leave a Comment

by magte Once you are out from the lift at the 3rd Floor, the employees from the closest stalls will hassle you to their stall. They will tell how good and how fresh their seafood. I fell into this trap on the 1st night eating at the 3rd stall from the lift. The seafood wasn't fresh and the rest of the food just so so and it is expensive. There are many seafood stalls including 2 or 3 BBQ & satay stalls. After gathering informations from the locals, their all time favorite stall is #25 (Bukit Mata Seafood Centre). Tried another time at this stall and true enough it is tasty, fresh and cheap. Usually it can be over crowded. Go as early as 6pm. The crowded customers was testimony to good food. We ordered 3 giant prawns, fried sambal bidin, curry fish head, lemon chicken, fried squid and stir fried sea cucumber. All the dishes were very tasty, good and the portion is big. Including rice, chinese tea and ice cubes for 6 pax, the bill came to RM130. For side dishes, the satay is quite good. The stall is located at the center of the atrium. Leave a Comment

Another attractive restaurant which due to lack of time we could not manage to visit. The building is very attractive and provides a great view of the river. These photos were taken whilst on the river enjoying a late afternoon cruise. There is so much to see and do in Kuching, and with only 2 days our stay was far too short. BING! A laid-back cafe with a Balinese theme by Sambawalk, 1 more photos A laid-back cafe with a Balinese theme that serves excellent Lattes and fresh fruit juices. They are also popular for their cakes, deli-style gourmet sandwiches and light meals. They have very very confortable sitting. A cup of cafe latte RM9 (Apr 2009). I was sitting there at noon time for 1.5 hours, enjoying the coffee and reading and be away from noon heat!). The Sarawak's signature dish, this is freshly made vermicelli submerged in a concoction of deliciously thick soup that is rich in coconut milk and spices, topped with tasty chunks of seafood, chicken, beansprouts and sliced omelette. This mouth-watering delight is a Sarawak original and best taken piping hot. You have not savoured Sarawak until you have tasted Sarawak Laksa. A gastronomical delight that is easily available and served in most coffee shops and hotels. If you like to eat Sarawak Laksa and would like to prepare the same back home, you can buy the ready-made Sarawak Laksa paste at some of the shops at Main Bazaar. RM3 to RM5 per packet. RM3.50 per bowl. Stall closed on Fridays. Sarawak Laksa is the most noticably Sarawakian food in Kuching. It was a favourite among Sarawakian from Chinese and Malay decent. It has a base of Sambal belacan, sour tamarind, garlic, galangal, lemon grass and coconut milk, topped with omelette strips, chicken strips, prawns, fresh coriander and optionally lime. Ingredients such as bean sprouts, (sliced) fried tofu or other seafood are not traditional but are sometimes added. Non-Halal Sarawak Laksa can be found at most Chinese coffee shops while Halal Sarawak Laksa can be found at most Malay coffee shops (and some Mamak too). Halal and non-Halal Sarawak Laksa don't have so much difference, except with the usage of halal chicken meat, and the cooking utensils used by the cook. Chinese-version of Sarawak Laksa has less thicker gravy but rich with condiments and toppings, while Malay-version of Sarawak Laksa has thicker gravy but more 'taugeh' (or beansprouts). Choon Hui cafe, Jln. Ban Hock (near Grand Continental Hotel) is one of the two famous laksa joint. Spicy and popular, get here before 10 AM. It costs RM4 (Apr 2009) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Jln. Ban Hock (near Grand Continental Hotel)
