By virtue of being on the coast, Miri has got some of the best seafood places. You mustn't miss the chance of dining at any of them. Most seafood restaurants here are in the open air so you can enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Go in the evenings when it is a little cooler.
The prices are pretty reasonable as well, but do be careful as some restaurants do not have menus to show the prices, so try to agree on the prices of the items when you order
Favorite Dish: You have to try the buttered prawns, steamed fish, deep fried calamari and tom yam soup. Mmmmmmmm...............
This is actually a franchise available throughout Malaysia, especially in Kuala Lumpur, so it's not unique to Miri. However, it serves up a pretty good cafe latte (better than Starbucks, I'll say) and cheesecakes. Choose from hot espresso drinks to ice blended Fraps to fruity ice thirst quenchers.
Standard SanFran sandwiches are also available here, and another good thing about the place is the free wifi. The cafe is located in the M Square building and has an outdoor deck which overlooks the street. This is a nice place to chill, surf the net and chat with friends where I like to go to at night.
Favorite Dish: The coffee of course :)
You can find noodles in just about any chinese cafe in Miri. You can have them fried, boiled or blanched and all of them taste as good. However, one that you must try in Sarawak is the Mee Kolok which is basically blanched noodles with slices of meat & vegetables, served dry or soup (in a broth).
It's also a cheap meal, under US$1 for a bowl. When I come home to Miri, I will have my mee kolok and mee merah, which is the same but mixed with a sweet red sauce. Yummy!! When I moved to KL, I found some stalls selling the noodles but the taste is never the same
You will see alot of open eatery in Miri . I had a breakfast of Roti Selur and local coffee. Roti is a pancake like dish selur means egg so a Roti selur is a thin pancake with chicken egg inside of it. It is served with curry sauce . The coffe is a dark one and bitter at that but you can see a layer of condense milk on the bottom. You are supposed to stir it all up to have a sweetend coffee. My breakfast cost me only .35 Cents USD . Its a great way to experince the local life
Fratini's Restaurant is an familiar name to the neighbouring Bruneians where this Italian food franchise is from. So if you feel like having some good Italian food e.g pizzas, pastas, desserts and coffee, Fratini's may have something for you. Personally I think that the place is better than some Italian restaurants in KL (honestly).
The indoor ambiance is warm & cosy and the service is friendly. Prices is on the high side but they occasionally have promotions, one is 30% off pizzas & pasta for takeaway. Still, I think that the for the quality you will get from Fratini's, it's worth it especially when you want to give yourself a nice treat or impress your date. They can organise parties or functions and also do outside catering and home delivery
Favorite Dish: You can't go wrong with most dishes on the menu and the coffee is fantastic
I always like to visit "Tanjong Lobang" where there are a lot of local stalls serving local dishes such as satay, fried rice, rojak, etc..... it really make me drool... It is an open space eating area near the seaside... that you can enjoy your meal with the sea breeze :)
Favorite Dish: Satay!! & BBQ seafood
