Luggage and bags: If visiting the Hilton Bantang Ai Longhouse, try to take light luggage if possible. There are a large number of steps to climb from the lake to the hotel, and it is rather a challenge to get a suitcase up the stairs. Trust me, I know!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential, boots are helpful. Light slip on shoes (flip flops) are very useful on the boat trips in Bantang Ai National Park as you may well get very wet feet and will want to change in to dry walking shoes. As it is the rainy season, a waterproof jacket will come in handy. On boat trips, a waterproof poncho is even better as you can use it to cover your camera and bag.

Luggage and bags: Suitcases must be well Marked and easily recognisable.
A light backpack is a must for most travellers.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In my oppinion you do not need a waterproof jacket or trousers shorts and teashirts in light colours are best with medium length socks and light trainer type walking boots or walking shoes.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: A first aid kit is a must with a simple selection of waterproof plasters and small bandages, Betadine antiseptic paint, Painkiller tablets and rehydration sachets.
We found a good insect repellent/suncream in a well known cosmetics catalogue in the uk to be very successful Ding Dong A**n calling. Tiger balm can be bought in most local shops. It Is also good for treating insect bites and it repels them too.
If you do get bitten by anything apply Betadine and then Tiger Balm.
Anti diarrhoea tablets, antihistamine, antifungal cream, hydracortizone could also be considered.

Photo Equipment: The best you can as there are many good photo oportunities.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Mind the giant ants they bite hard and are often found near the beach.

Miscellaneous: An extremely good and , for us on many occasions, a life saver are Platypus drinks bags. You can fill them then freeze them, wrap them in a towel and plastic bag then place them in your backpack.
The drink slowly thaws out and supplies a refreshing ice cold drink supply for hours.
I would not be without one at any national park.

Mulu Resort

Luggage and bags: Luggage And Bags:
Be sure to check the weight allowance on Malaysia Airlines before going to the airport.
It isn't much on those twin otter flights.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear:
Take a rain poncho and a change of shoes, if you can. You are going to get wet while you are there.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Toiletries & Medical Supplies:
Take everything that you think you will need.
There are a few supplies in the gift shop but not much. We got there without our toothbrushes and was lucky enough to buy those there.

Photo Equipment: Photo Equipment:
Plastic bags for your camera are essential.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear:
Take what you will need if you are camping in the park.

Miscellaneous: These are tips for going to Mulu. There are places to shop most other places in Sarawak.

Luggage and bags: A rucksack is much more efficient than a suitcase here! Especially if you plan to visit the more remote areas, or if there are boat trips involved. More comfortable anyway!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you plan on doing some hiking good hiking boots will help - if possible they should be waterproof as it rains a lot throughout the year. Don't forget a raincoat! The weather is quite hot so bring light breathable clothing. If you plan to visit the highlands though, bring something a bit warmer as well.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: High factor sun blocks and insect repellent specifically for the tropics (with DEET) is a must.

Miscellaneous: A pair of binoculars is worth as much as gold here - many of the animals and birds you will see will be a bit far away, the binos will help you get a better view.

If you plan to stay in any hostels or very cheap places a sleeping bag liner would not be a bad idea - people sometimes complain of dirty/smelly linen and even bed bugs.

Kids

Luggage and bags: Since this a wet & wild trip, do remember to pack your swimming trunk (or swim suit), tubes for kids, mosquito repellent, sun block and other picnic essential.

Camera for some fun shots is very important. Chilled beer will be good especially your dad or father in-law is coming. ;-)
