Batu Bungan Longhouse Morning Market: Penan Culture Shopping

by AlbuqRay

The morning market at the Batu Bungan Longhouse is outdoors. It turned out to be much better than I thought. The Penan people do quite nice beadwork and also have some unique items associated with their former nomadic jungle culture. There was also a village shop in a house but I did not go inside. Note that I unknowingly had a water drop on my lens from the longboat trip when I took the pictures. I bought a really unique "guitar" made from a section of bamboo for only RM10. There is one "I" hole to let the sound out. There are four "strings" made from slices in the bamboo itself and tuned by jamming small pieces of bamboo underneath. I also bought three beadwork keychains for a total of RM10.

Main Bazaar: Handicrafts Galore

by faridah

You got to come here to shop. You should walk through the whole rows of shophouses and check out all the stuffs. Bags, slippers, mats, necklaces, bracelets, T shirts and they are soooo cheap. You can still get a few ringgits off the stated price. Happy Shopping!! Evereything if you are shopaholic. I get very distracted when there are so many beautiful and cheap stuffs, I usually end up with only a few things. Bought bags, Tshirts, bracelets, clogs, and this cool ladles made from nibong tree...

Pottery in Sarawak

by faridah

Get your vases and pottery here. You can have a feel of how it is done and see the workshop. Price are cheaper than normal.. but just stick to the pottery stuffs. Other handicrafts get it at main bazaar.

Something unique from native culture

by edachsund

Try and get them at along waterfront bay. you gonna see lots of craft shop with different type of design and prices. I would suggest you to get maybe 'Pua Kumbu cloth' its quite famous with the tale on the design of the cloth. Pua Kumbu is a name of the local craft made by imported thread and weav by local native tribe.

Souvenier Shops in Kuching: Shopping in Malaysian Borneo

by SanguiniA

If you would like to take some handicraft souverniers at home purchase them in Kuching. Cross the road from the waterfront and there are plenty of shops selling a staggering amount of hand made souveniers which are really beautiful and are really cheap too. Other places in Sarawak sell souveniers but there is neither this quantity nor are the prices so competitive. If you are visiting Sabah afterwards don't say I'll get the souveniers from there - there is less choice and they are slightly more expensive. If you visit the Cultural village there is a small souvenier shop selling nice handicrafts as well.

FISH FOR LUNCH

by BerniShand

Not a shop, but a fish farm in the middle of the river, where our guides chose fish to be cooked for our lunch while we were visiting the Batang Ai reserveThe fish farm was owned by the longhouse community we visited later that day Fish....what else would you buy at a fish farm ? no idea, I stay away while the buying was going on in case my proposed lunch made eye contact with me !

Gunung Mulu National Park: Nothing to shop

by Tommiandtanja

The sign tells everything. There is only one road and that´s it. No stores, no giftshops. If you want to buy something, go to Miri or Kuching.
