This stall in Happy Hours Cafe is run by Wong Kui Eng and is noted for its Tom Yam Hung Ngan, a Foochow speciality... The dish is not-to-be-missed by the locals and visitors from around the region including Singapore, Brunei and West Malaysia...
Favorite Dish: The special and only food served is Hung Ngan which is the Foochow name for the thick round vermicelli like “Bee Hoon” (in Foochow it is mee-ung) the usual type of vermicelli... Hung Ngan is prepared in 2 distinctive versions... ie either with Tom Yam or Chao Chai... Chao Chai is Foochow preserved vegetable, which adds to Hung Ngan its distinctive delicious sour taste... Address: Rejang Park, Sibu
Eating out in Sibu is one of the cheapest in the state. Local Foochow 'Kong Bian', a type of bagel baked in tandoori type oven is a must. And so are 'Kang Muan' noodle and Foochow vermicelli served in clear chicken broth or in 'Pa Tin' herbal broth.
Favorite Dish: I like the 'Kang Muan' noodle and the Foochow vermicelli served in clear chicken broth. Even though you can find it in any part of Sarawak, it is still the best in Sibu, as that is where it comes from. Actually my Mom can cook it really well! Yum yum! ;-)
