 | | | | "airport in the forest, forest in the airport", | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Its such a big airport , so hi tech and so cool ...some of the things that is under her belt are like the a) world's tallest air-traffic control tower, b) the biggest columnless hangar, c) the longest baggage conveyor belt system, d) biggest passenger lounge and the capacity for 25 million people a year. The airport is built on 10,000 hectares (25,000 acres - one of the world's largest construction site) or 100 sq. km. of agriculture land once thick with rubber and palm oil plantations which makes it one of the largest airport sites in the world. KLIA was completed in four and a half years with round-the-clock construction work (making it the fastest airport ever built) undertaken by an international workforce of 25,000 people (largest number of workers for a Malaysian project) at a cost of about US$3.5bn and commenced full commercial operations on June 28, 1998. The large size of land designated for the airport would allow the airport to expand as needed to meet present and future air traffic demands. KLIA is the second airport in the world after Munich to have a special chamber to defuse explosives as part of its sophisticated fire-fighting systems. It has two decompression chambers costing RM 3.2 million to dispose of explosive materials. KLIA's fire fighting unit is the most modern in the region. It is the first in the region to secure seven Ultra Large Foam Tender (ULFT) vehicles costing RM 3.8 million each which can be operated in any condition. Each tower has 29 double-deck high speed passenger lifts in each tower The twin towers are connected at level 41 and 42 by a bridge called Skybridge. The floor-plate of the Tower is designed based on geometric patterns common in architecture of Islamic heritage. It is composed of two rotated and superimposed squares with small circular infills. These geometric figures have been described by architects as symbolising unity, harmony, stability and rationality - all important principles of Islam. Like the exterior design, the Towers' entrance design was also inspired by the country's cultural heritage, incorporating contemporary Malaysian motifs adapted from traditional handicrafts such as songket and timber carvings. The overall character of the building is high-tech and international but distinctively Malaysian At the podium level, there is the 864-seat Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, a venue of architectural and acoustic distinction. KL Tower - is perched atop Bukit Nanas and rises to a height of 421m (1403 ft); a highly visible and prestigious landmark . Bukit Nanas itself, where the tower is built, is 94 meters above sea level. Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle at the epicenter of Kuala Lumpur's business and entertainment district, you can reach the Tower from Jalan Sultan Ismail to Jalan P. Ramlee via Jalan Punchak with parking provided for up to 184 vehicles (MAP, Aerial View). Menara KL was officially launched by YAB Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, on October 1st, 1996. The KL Tower has been designed to achieve an overall glass arranged in the traditional Islamic form of the "Muqarnas". As the Muqarnas pattern recurs in the Tower Shaft design, the architectural design of the Tower Head and the roof of the Base Buildings, the whole appearance will become one harmonious entity reflecting the revival of the Islamic architectural heritage Leave a Comment Phone: 603 2020 5446Website: http://www.menarakl.com.my

Masjid Jamek is located where the Gombak river flows into the Klang River and with its palm tress and curved steps leading to the water's edge, it is a haven of peace and tranquility set amongst the buzz and rush of modern KL. The Mosque is built on a symbolic site dating back to the origins of Kuala Lumpur, being the spot where the founders of the city first set foot. The design was inspired by Mogul mosques in northern India. Cupolas and minarets top the brick walls and arched colonnades. As with all mosques, a visit calls for conservative dress and the removal of shoes. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Pyramid of Malaysia | Tip Rating: | | | | |
The Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre is externally designed, not surprisingly, around an Egyptian theme. A Sphinx-like lion sits at the front of the complex overseeing traffic on the main road, and behind him rises an 80 metre high shiny pyramid. At the top of this is an area of anti-reflective glass, behind which is mounted a NatScan projection head, the glass allowing beams and effects to be projected outside from all around the apex of the pyramid. Inside, the flat inner skin allows for projection of graphics, effects and animations, which can be triggered in time to music, to complement the output of numerous lighting heads. With the four surfaces, viewing can be done from any side of the central galleries under the Pyramid. The outside of the whole complex is very impressive, not only by the size of the whole structure, but with the attention to detail in continuing the Egyptian theme. The whole of the outer walls depict hieroglyphics and ancient Egyptian drawings, all finished in an earthy red/orange colour. Leave a Comment
