The National Zoo (Zoo Negara in National Language) is the largest zoological garden in Malaysia. It is located at Hulu Kelang in Ampang in the state of Selangor, approximately 12 kilometers from Central Kuala Lumpur city. The National Zoo is managed by Malaysian Zoological Society. It is one of the best zoological gardens in Southeast Asia. The National Zoo covers a total area of approximately 110 acres. It was officially opened to the public in 1963. The zoo has more than 5,000 animals with more than 400 different species such as elephants, zebras, mousedeers, bears, Malaysian tigers, porcupines, hippos, orangutans, tapir, birds and reptiles. There is also an aquarium in the zoological garden with many different species of sea animals. Animals shows are also scheduled in the zoo.
