I enjoyed wandering around the Heritage Quarter - but I was only there for the day from KL, (from where the rail service is fast, efficicient and clean); many fine examples, in my view, of Colonial Architecture.

Melaka River, Melaka

by hopang

Melaka River (Sungai Melaka) was the location where the historic city of Melaka began. A prince from Sumatra known as Parameswara founded Melaka (formerly known as Malacca) in 1402 and established his sultanate near the mouth of Melaka River at the foot of St. Paul's Hill. Due to its strategic location, Melaka was later occupied by the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British and the Japanese. It was known as "Venice of the East" by seafarers where the traders from the East and the West met and became a very busy port for several centuries.Today Melaka River boat tour is a popular tourist attraction. It is an hour round trip boat tour covering approximately 10 kilometers from the Dutch Square to Kampung Morten. The boat will pass several bridges such as Tan Boon Seng Bridge, Chan Boon Cheng Bridge and Old Market Bridge, old shophouses, churches, warehouses, new high rise hotels and apartments...

Go up to Penang Hill

by kyoub

While you are on Penang you must take the funicular railway up to the top of Penang Hill. While there you can walk around and see the great view down over the city, unless it is very foggy like it was when we were there. You could stop at the hotel and have some lunch or just a nice cool drink. Take a look at the birds that are in the small botanical garden. Have a look at the Muslum Mosque and the Hindu Temple that are on the hill. Then you can take the ride back down enjoying the scenery as you go.

Kek Lok Si Temple

by kyoub

This temple can be seen from a great distance away because it is spread over 12 hectares of land. It took Burmese, Chinese, and Thai artists over two decades to build. Put on your walking shoes before enjoying this sight. The temple was all decorated in red lanterns when we were there in honor of Chinese New Year. The main entrance looked like a shopping mall. I am not sure if this was because of the holiday or if it is always this way.It is very interesting and we took many many pictures.

A must do in Kuala Lumpur is go up in the Menara Kuala Lumpur telecommunication tower. It is one of the tallest concrete towers in the world at 421 metres and also the fourth tallest telecommunications tower in the world. You can walk around on the observation deck and get a great view of the city. Don't forget to take your camera.
