 | Malaysia Tourist Traps | Tips 51 - 60 of 76 | | Popular Tourist Traps | Other Tourist Traps Tips | All Tips (76) Don't bother actually going to the towers because you can see them from anywhere in Kuala Lumpur and you can't go in them unless you're very lucky and even then its not worth the money spent.
Go at night, the view is amazing. As long as you stay in a hotel nearby, you can walk to it (but watch the traffic). If you really wanna go in them. Get there first thing in the morning because they only let 100 people in a day.
Get a great view of the city from the Observation deck on the Menara Kuala Lumpur tower. Its one of the highest structures in the world and you'll get great photos. But don't allocate too much time. I reckon do this and the towers all in one morning. Leave a Comment

Good thing I read all of KL tips here before traveling coz what they say about taxi drivers not using thier meter were all true! So beware! If a taxi driver asks for a fixed price and doesn't want to use his meter, then all you need to do is transfer to another descent and honest taxi driver in KL. There still are honest drivers here you know.

I think that Johor Bahru (just over the causway from Singapore) itself is a bit of a let down. It is one of those places that you can only stay 1 night. You'll probably end up doing that anyway. Sorry to anyone that lives here!
Have a walk around the city or go shopping.
Head straight for Kuala Lumpur. Leave a Comment

I took a day tour of Johor Bahru. It was a 5 hour tour which left from Singapore. The bus took us to the border where we had to get off and meet on the bus on the Malaysian side. Our first stop was at a batik "factory". What it really was was a "get the tourist's money" handicraft store. At this factory we saw our first Malaysian culture show which was traditional music. Our next stop was at the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque. This is a beautiful mosque which resembles European architecture. It is a magnificent site. Following the mosque we stopped at a "traditional" Malaysian house. The family just happend to put on culture shows so we saw our second one, this time it was dancing. Another "coincidence" was that there was a pewter factory behind the house. So they showe us the different things we could buy. I hate tour for these kinds of reasons. It got us from Singapore to Johor Bahru, showed us one site that I wanted to see, but for the most part tried to get our money. I should warn you that these tours are tourist traps but if you want, take one anyway. It can be easier if you have a family.
If you do not like these kinds of touristy things, take a cab and go by yourself. Like I should have done. Leave a Comment

If you plan on hiring a driver to tour you around, which is economically viable, this driver won't take you where you ask to be taken. Instead, he'll stop at every single one of his friend's local shops or rubber factories. It's really annoying - no matter how firm you are, or how insistant that you absolutely refuse to go anywhere except for where you ask, it doesn't matter - you'll still end up nowhere that you want to be anyway. All we wanted was to go to the rice paddies - we tried five times and didn't get there once.
Alternatively, I would rent a car, buy a map, and hope for the best. Leave a Comment

KL sentral as the name suggests, connects many public transport systems such as the monorail, train and light railway transit. I stopped here to take a cab to JW Marriot Hotel and it cost me RM9 as you have to prepay at the counter before entering the cab. The same journey later from the hotel to the station only cost RM6. Perhaps it is cheaper to stop at the station before or after KL Sentral and take the cab from there as you can use the meter. Leave a Comment
