 | Malaysia Warnings or Dangers | Tips 31 - 40 of 152 | | Popular Warnings or Dangers | Miscellaneous Warnings or Dangers Tips | All Tips (152) Many hotels in KL disallow occupants to bring durians and/or mangosteen to their rooms. REASONS: Durian - controversy - some folks find the smell/scent repugnant, reminding them of dead carcasses/clogged sewers/cheese gone horribly bad and in some cases, all those mentioned. Mangosteen - not so much for the smell (it practically has none) but for the stain it creates on linen and clothings. Purple sap arising from breakage of the outer husk (to extract the sweet interior) is one of the most frustrating stains to remove. Leave a Comment |

Simply put, Malaysia is not safe for women travelling alone. I read the warnings in all the guidebooks, but I thought they were exaggerated. They are not. I thought only women who are scantily dressed or out on the streets alone late at night get harrassed. This is not true. I consider myself to be a very modest person; I don't run around half naked, I obey local customs as much as I can, I don't put myself in unnecessary risk, I try not to be wandering around at night, I don't drink when I'm travelling...and I was hasseled so much in Malaysia that I nearly ended my trip early. Men followed me back to my hotel. Men hollered and catcalled to me as I was walking down the streets in broad daylight. My snorkeling instructor felt me up. A man surprised me on the beach and attempted to pull me on top of him. The boat driver for my hotel kissed me and tried to unzip my shorts. And this was just the first week! So be warned, ladies. Take every precaution you can think of, and try not to go alone. Leave a Comment |

THE DEATH PENALTY! Be warned travellers, the Malaysian government does not take lightly to drug traffickers. The death sentence to trafickers. DO NOT accept parcels from others. DO NOT help others send or carry parcels. Watch your bags. DO NOT leave them unattended. Anyone can slip drugs into your luggage without you knowing. DO NOT accept drinks or food from suspicious persons. It may contain sleeping pills. They use this technique to either rob you or place drugs in your luggage. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! You are also adviced to be 'clean' when entering Malaysia. You can get detained if you are unlucky. Leave a Comment |
