Hemmingways, one of the latest Cuban bars to open in the city of KL. Here you can find a blend of mix-culture patronage mostly aged from late 20s till 40s.
The place is well decorated, it makes you feel like you wouldn't have to visit Melaka's Jonker Street. It's practicially filled up with antiques to the ceiling. Wood interior gives the place a warm and cosy touch and the music played there is hard core Cuban-Salsa. There's one huge portrait there that I really like, it's our former Prime Minister posing with the great Fidel Castro.
They serve light Tapas and generally all types of drinks. Prices are pretty average considering it's location. It is built in one of the older pre-war styled shop houses, so character is there. It's 2 floors, on the ground you will get the bar, only 1 booth seat and a little dance floor to show your best salsa moves. On one side of the walls, you will find huge prints of Cuban lifestyles and on the other is the lovely bar. Going up to the 1st floor, you will find a tastefully decorated lounge styled area which caters to bigger groups who hate to stand and socialize.
They also have a unique wine room where empty wine bottles are dumped into a old styled bath tub. Selection of wines are quite impressive. A cigar room also managed to find a space there, and it too is enclosed like the wine room.
Hemmingways was officially opened by our very own Minister for Culture, Arts
and Tourism, Datuk Kadir bin Haji Sheikh Fadzir. Occasionally, you might be able to catch him doing his rounds there.
Pretty casual-partee. Of course, no shorts and japanese slippers, but if you think you want to be different, by all means.
Excellent cuban bar in the heart of Changkat Bukit Bintang. Nice relaxing place -love the decor !- and perfect place to run away from the kiddies (ha ha ha !) over at Jalan Sultan Ismail :-p
Good drinks here : Mojitos & Mai Tais :-)
I tried my first ever Cuna beer, Bucanero ... quite nice, I must say !
Dress Code: Well ... no requirements that we saw, but it would be nice to dress up a bit :-)
Every Thursday & Friday 9pm onwards they got free salsa dance lesson which taught by two hot salsa dancers.
Good news to the ladies, every Tuesday and Thursday there would be a "Señorita Nite Out"(ladies night) from 8pm till midnight, all ladies can ask for free Magarita.
last time i was there and happen to see the salsa dancers giving lesson to customers and having fun. i also saw them doing performance and they are so great!!
by the way, their Manager Guna is a nice, easy going and quite handsome guy ;)
Dress Code: casual smart would be nice, but of course, if you know your dress code, that won't be any problems
This was the venue for KL's 3rd monthly meet.
Cuban styled interior decorated with antiques and artifacts, wine room & cigar Divan, 1st floor with sofa seating, double ceiling bar, all walls covered with Cuban lifestyle canvas art, plays Latin American Music.
Happy Hour – 4pm till 9pm
Beer RM7+ /mug, RM28+ /jug
House Wine RM11+/glass
Ladies nite every Tuesday & Thursday - complimentry wine from 8pm till mid-nite
A very popular place with the VT crowd in KL, and justifiably so. The theme is Cuban and the inside is decorated very nicely. The Cuban music (each track sounds remarkably similar to me) can get a bit loud, making conversation difficult - especially if, like me, you have a strange accent.
The girls get a really good deal here. It appears that on several nights, certain types of drinks are free for the ladies.
