 | Kuala Lumpur Off the Beaten Path | Tips 31 - 40 of 285 | | Taken under a bridge somewhere in KL, markets like this are a many. Usually foods(cooked & uncooked) and clothes, these are an alternative to going out to the supermarkets. The beauty of these markets are, they come to your area, not you going to theirs. In the picture is a 'Day-Market' as you also get 'Night-Markets' too. They are found all mostly around the housing areas outskirt of the city. ☼ Leave a Comment |
Trekking is great! After you can have your reward ? the food. The stairs or actually I'm not sure what to call them but they were there while I was climbing up in to the jungle. We must have been 'climbing' for 30-40 minutes (even tho it felt like HOURS!!) when we suddenly hear a guy (he was looking out of the window in his tree house...) asking if we would like to take 'the tree way' me? - NO WAY! Peter and Peter did tho..... I continued with my walk when I could hear the wind or was it water in my imagination? I speeded up , now I was on my way down... jump over the stones and the 'stairs' and then... A little kid age of 3 (max), looked terrified at me saying.. Hi... where did you come from? And then I saw it... the little miniature waterfall *splash* We went to Frim - Forrest Research Institute Malaysia, go there!! It is worth a visit! Visit their website for instructions on how to go there!! Leave a Comment |

Being a predominantly Moslem country, I was pleasantly surprised to easily find a Catholic Church in KL. More surprising is the number of people who attended the Sunday 8am mass said in English. While I expected a sizable number of Filipinos, there were also Malaysians, Indians, Chinese, Caucasians, and Americans. On the churchyard and pavement outside the gate, enterprising people peddle garments, food products, religious articles, among others. Located at Jalan Raja Chulan, it is perched on an elevated part of the street. Leave a Comment |
A nice place away from the madding crowds in the city is this enormous park west of KL Sentral. At the centre of this huge 92-hectare park is a lake, hence the name.. Nice to sit in the grass and enjoy the flora and fauna (yes, i've seen monkeys, turtles and flamencos here). How to get there: Get off at KL Sentral. Go west through the tunnel and walk past the national mosque. Leave a Comment |
Around Bukit Bintang there are lots of reflexology and massage places. I have read a bit about reflexology but up until now I have been disappointed with my experiences with it, which just amounted to a bit of foot rubbing. Finally though, in KL, I found a lady that really knows her stuff. I don't know a lot about it but the basis of reflexology is that there are points on the feet (and hands) that correspond to other parts of the body. By rubbing and applying pressure to these reflex points it should be possible for the practitioner to detect problems in the body and then working on correcting them. After a few minutes I was quite amazed at what Wang told me. By working on my feet and at the same time talking to me and watching me grimace to see what points were painful she identified a number of ailments. Firstly with my eyes - that they were tired or I was wearing lenses. Correct on both counts. She went on to tell me that my stomach wasn't happy. I didn't think that I had an upset tummy but she then asked if I'd been eating spicy food. I had eaten some very spicy Thai soup and a curry immediately before my session. Although my stomach was okay at the time it started complaining the following morning! She also detected a problem I'd been having with my back and shoulder, and with my wrist from an old injury. The other thing that was evident was slight dehydration which she could sense in the reflex point for my kidneys. All this from fiddling with my feet. Amazing! I went back a couple of days later for a repeat session and a full back massage which was excellent. I paid 25RM for the reflexology session and 80RM for the full works. Highly recommended. The Tourist Information Complex located at Jalan Ampang. It is the place where you can get all the information about Malaysia. You can also watch performances and a play every Saturday night at the theater. Dining can be so easy as there is the 'Saloma Cafe' that caters all traditional dishes but the price can be more than at the hawker centre. You can book your express bus ticket and ride on the MARA EXECUTIVE bus with great price. Ask anything you wanted to know. This place is very easy to find as it is located at the main road of Jalan Ampang. If you take the PURTA, stop at Dang Wangi Station. Walk straight guided by the Petronas Twin Tower (KLCC) and it is on your right hand side. If you are from Jalan Sultan Ismail, walk along the Concorde Hotel and pass by the Hard Rock Cafe, turn right and walk straight. Leave a Comment Phone: +60 3 2164 3929 |
I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would get a chance to get up close and personal to an elephant. Let alone ride one.But with the help of a new friend Raz(aka Banditleader) we did get to experience it.Raz is a volunteer at KUALA GANDAH ELEPHANT SANCTUARY and he invited us to join him there for the day. This is the only one of its kind in Malaysia and the group of people that are involved do so much for the elephants. They are a dedicated team that locate then relocate the elephants to a more suitable area. You get to see a film on how this is done When we were there they had 2 babies and 5 adults. Each Elephant has its own personality and I must admit I fell in love with Abot. She was so cheeky (yes elephants do have personalities :) ) We got to see how their food is prepared each day. we watched as 2 volunteers fed the babies their milk, we watched and laughed as the elephants had there daily bath. Then we got to go for a ride. in the river. I can understand why we were advised to take a second lot of clothing. we got dumped in the river by the elephant :) but it was a great day. This team of dedicated workers do such a great job. You can see how much they care for them but the caring and love they feel for this amazing animal isnt enough .what they desperately need is donations so they can go ahead with the great job they are doing now. They are young. They are musicians. They are a bunch of creatives people, trying their hands at alternative musical instruments. They normally perform at the open area of Bintang Walk right infront of the bank. You need to be here and hear them for yourself and enjoy their music performance. They do it for free but a token or two is much appreciated. |
VT member l_joo guided me on a brief tour of KL's seedy red light district, located up and down Lorong Haji Taib Satu and Lorong Haji Taib Dua. The prostitutes generally sit on chairs outside of doorways. When they see a potential customer, they'll usually make a kissing sound or say hello. A number of shady characters around here. It's not exactly a trip to the Reeperbahn, but it was an interesting point of contrast... Leave a Comment |
