A very interesting temple which most visitors to KL misses, is the Pudu pillayar, or Ganesha temple in Jalan Pudu. It is very close to the Maybank office tower. Prayers are performed at 7am/pm.
In the first picture you can see a special arrangement made for one person who has payed for a certain amount of prayers. There are two amounts to choose from, if I remember correctly you can choose 108 or 1080 prayers. Each prayer is represented by a coconut and a porcelain shell filled with water.
In the second and third picture you see the fire which is very important, I believe as a symbol for purity. You also see the priest pouring a little oil (or ghee) to the fire.
Picture number four shows Ganesha beeing washed in milk. After that there are several other ways he should be washed and claened. It takes quite a long time to do all this. And it's all done twice a day. Also the last picture shows some kind of cleaning but the pic is taken from the TV-set which is put up to help people see as it is very narrow inside the temple and lots of people. In this picture you can see a white string over the back of the priest. That shows that he is a Bhraman, a chief priest. They are the only priests allowed to perform some of the rituals and they all belong to some special families.

There is a special temple in Kepong area, the Naga Temple. The name litterally means Snake Temple. It is said that a snake lives beneath the tree were the temple has been built, and Hindus gives offers to this snake. The offers should con-
sist of at least milk, fruit and eggs, I'm not sure now if there should be anything else too.
On my second picture you can see nine gods, (all should be black in colour), but none is looking at any other of them. They all depict certain things like different weekdays or behaviours. These nine gods are called Saniswaran and rule our lives. When a child is born the astrologes look at the constelations of the stars, sun, moon and planets to make a horoscope consisting of nine squares, one for each of the gods. That then decide the future for this person.
It was a very bad weather when we were there, heavy rain and a thunderstorm approaching with the temple situated right beneath the power lines so I didn't really like it. Apart from that I do NOT like snakes in any form...

St Paul’s Church was built by a Portuguese Captain, the chapel was turned by the Dutch into a burial ground for their noble dead and renamed it `St. Paul’s Church` from the Portuguese’s `Our Lady Of The Hill.` St. Francis Xavier was briefly enshrined in the open grave in 1553 before being shipped to Goa, India.

Being a predominantly Moslem country, I was pleasantly surprised to easily find a Catholic Church in KL. More surprising is the number of people who attended the Sunday 8am mass said in English. While I expected a sizable number of Filipinos, there were also Malaysians, Indians, Chinese, Caucasians, and Americans.
On the churchyard and pavement outside the gate, enterprising people peddle garments, food products, religious articles, among others.
Located at Jalan Raja Chulan, it is perched on an elevated part of the street.

The church stands on its original sight when it was built in 1753. There are handmade pews, ceiling beams constructed without joints, a brass Bible and a tombstone written in Armenian and 'Last Supper' in glazed tiles.
