Fook-Keen-My-Fun Noodles: Fook-Keen-My-Fun Noodles (Hokkien Mee)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Fook-Keen-My-Fun Noodles is very common food in Kuala Lumpur, mainly among local Malaysian-Chinese, its not Islamic halal food. The noodles is cooked with sliced pork meats together with fried pork fat in small granulate pieces which local Lumpurians called 'chwee-yau-char'. The noodles is quite plump, about 7mm measure in diameter and to be cooked with black sauce in sweat salty taste. Local peoples like to eat with chopped garlics and chili sauce, to seek extra excitements. Squeeze some lime juices into the chili sauce to double the kick. Usually eat with chopsticks. The food cost RM4.00 only, typical local food of Lumpurians.

    Mixed Rice: Mixed Rice Stall
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Mixed Rice Stalls are selling rice and lots of well cooked dishes on display just as what you see in photo. You just have to stand close to the stall, they will give you a plate of plain white rice. With that on hand, you can pick any dishes you desire onto your plate. When you completed your selection of dishes, go to the boss to pay money. That will cost normally at around RM4 per plate.

Vegetarians can always come to eat a a mix-rice-stall with a plate of plain rice and you can select any vegetables to eat with.

    Porridge: Porridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Porridge is very simple, you just have to use the spoon they provided to scoop up whatever is in the bowl to eat. Porridge in Kuala Lumpur have more than just one choice. Teo-Chew Porridge at night is a good choice of Porridge which I will show you later. This Porridge in photo is called Chicken Porridge or Peytaan Porridge. Peytaan is the black colored preserved eggs in coarse shapes. Peytaan Porridge is so delicious when you sprinkle some soy sauce on it.

Street vendors and hawkers: Street Chicken Rice
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Chicken rice is our homemade foods made from either fried or fresh steam chicken and serve with oily rice. When eating, we have sliced cucumber (timbun) and hot chicken bone soup together with sour chili sauce. This food we don't eat with fingers as in Nasi Kandar. We use fork and spoon but not knife.

    Miss Yip's proudful influence

One of Taman Connaught's street vendor has a very special food with very special name called Miss Yip's Big Pau. Pau or Pow is one of our daily foods in Malaysia especially in Kuala Lumpur. It is actually Chinese Meat Bun but almost quadruple in size which is very big. Good for lunch especially delicious to eat with Chinese hot tea. Who is Miss Yip then? She is one of the famous Hong Kong movie stars in the early 90s whom as the proud owner of her large breasts. Over here, our Malaysian fans named the big bun using her name as free advertisement. Somehow the big bun became our Malaysian creation and quite success as well. If you are tourists, this is something special for you. The location is Taman Connaught and the stall is very obviously by the roadside.

    Roti Telur: Roti Telur
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Roti Telur is thin flatbread with egg in it. This food comes from two sources in Mamak (Indian Muslims) and the Hindus. Nowadays some Mamak stalls already upgraded to big restaurants, just look at Kayu Nasi Kandar. Roti Telur is the food they introduce to Malaysian. In the photo is a plate of Roti Telur I snapped from a mamak restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Roti Telur comes with dhal and curry ikan (fish curry). My eating style is to tear a piece and dip with curry ikan or dhal. Best eaten with Teh Tarik.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • To make sure you are entering a Local Malaysian-Chinese restaurant, you can look on the wall, if pasted many beer posters like in this photo, meaning you are already inside a Local Malaysian-Chinese restaurant. This kind of restaurant can let you sit on the chair and use the table to drink beer or stout entire day. Some of these restaurants are 24hrs, beer drinkers can drink there while watching the English Premiership football or the EUFA Champions League. Beers are selling RM12.00 big bottle (2005 price), RM6.00 for small.

    Alcoholic beverages: Alcoholic beverages
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • These are our Lumpurese Alcoholic beverages. Tourists who love liquors have all these choices which I snapped from one of our local famous supermarket. In this photo, we have Carlberg Ice, Anchor ice, Tiger, Special Brew, Guinness Stout, etc. All these brand names were not Malaysian. If you want to taste Malaysian's Alcoholic beverages, I can only offer you our Indian homemade Coconut-Tuak.

    Baak-Chaang: Baak-Chaang
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Baak-Chaang is originated from the northern hemisphere of ancient middle kingdom (China). Malaysian-Chinese brought it over to further improve and turned it as one of Malaysian's must especially in festive days. Nowadays in the Lumpur, this Baak-Chaang is eaten as daily foods because not many peoples actually care about the origins or those old stories, as long as the taste is good. This Baak-Chaang is very delicious, if you are tourists, don't miss it. This food is made of glutinous rice wrapped together with dried prawns, pork, beans and many others. The outer layer was wrapped up using big bamboo leaves to boil and to eat. This photo is taken from one of Cheras area's Pasar Malam (night market).
