  • You canno't miss the Chinatown restaurant in the streets. You can eat some of the most delicious chinese dish.... Nothing special but the ambiance and the plainness give you a different taste

  • This is my all time favorite supper. Its egg noodles fried in dark soy sauce with veges and lots of other stuff. This is a must try.I've got a friend in Perth who loves this very very much. Sorry about the bad pic, my mom dug into it(as you can see her with her full bowl of mee) before i could snap a shot.

Street vendors and hawkers: I miss the nasi goreng and spicy squid
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • After arriving in KL from Manila, we went directly to jalan alor (hawker place). This place is very convenient and cheap and open till 2AM. We are searching for a place to eat and an old chinese man upsell his restaurant and give it a shot to try their food. THe place is just average but the service and the food is excellent. The owner even chat with us and tried to speak in Filipino. The food only cost us around RM25 for three person (very cheap!!). Since this is a chinese owned restaurant, they offer also pork on their menu.

Spicy Squid, Sweet and Sour Pork and Nasi Goreng. All of this 3 food are great, very tasty. Its my first time to eat Nasi Goreng and gave me a good impression about food in KL. We had a malaysia's very own Tiger Beer to complete our late dinner.

Street vendors and hawkers: Fresh Malaysian Cookies and Bakeries
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Yum yum, don't miss out on this when you are in Petaling Street. These are chinese buns and cookies, very very yummy. Good to buy some to snack while you shop in Petaling Street.

I like the one with some sweetish glutonious rice in the middle( in picture, top row far left), and those round balls with sesame and red bean paste filling in them.

Street vendors and hawkers: Food Stalls
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Malaysia is a country where you can get food 24/7. No worries about starvation when you come to kl. One of my favorites are these stalls called Mamak (mA-mAK) stalls. they can be found nearly everywhere. They serve indian-muslims food ranging from Naan curry to tandoori chicken. Oh, and dont miss out on our specialty: Teh Tarik! If you are not near any mamak stalls, try some hawker stalls. We have wonderful fishball noodles which make really good breakfast or late night supper.

mamak: Teh Tarik is a must. try a variety of naans. and chicken kurma. and tuna cutlets. and mutton curry. and fish head curry. and nasi briyani chinese hawker stall: fishball noodle soup. wanton mee, some of them have little local `kuih` or local cakes for you too.

Street vendors and hawkers: Dim Sum Galore
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • When it comes to dim sum, you can go to many places in KL to enjoy this traditional Chinese breakfast or snack. As for me, my favourite place for these yummy dishes would be in Petaling Jaya SS2. There are many choices of dim sum, congee, meat buns and savoury cakes to indulge in. If you go to a fancy restaurant, it will cost you a bomb. Chinese restaturant franchise or fancy chinese restaurants in hotels will serve up good quality dim but some of these restaurants are halal meaning the dishes will not have any pork and Muslims are able to patronise them. If you want to try good & reasonably priced dim sum (US$1 per plate), go to the local Chinese cafes or kopitiam. As for me, I'll always go for the non-halal ones because it's more authentic :)

I have many favourites : from steam meat buns (char siew pao), congee and the many selection of meat dishes

Street vendors and hawkers: Night time Nasi Lemak
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Nasi Lemak is a breakfast thing - but at this stall it is dinner and supper stuff. The stall is located in Kampung Baru location- coming from the junction of Jalan Sultan Ismail- Jalan abdullah - the junction of Bank Pembangunan Sheraton Hotel junction, you go along Jalan Abdullah till you hit a bridge - turn right with a overhead message Daulat Tuanku...drive till you pass a car wash snow wash, and it is on the left side.

Best to go at 6:30-7pm, when they still have the fried chicken and also the rice is just cooked so not swollen up. The sambal is yummy - right consistency as my friends put it, but I also enjoy their sotong masak kacang - which is squid coooked in peanuty sauce. This place is very popular with locals and hardly any tourist. It is a bit dirty with cats loittering around, beggars coming around. Very popular with hotel staff who works the graveyard shift. closes way past midnight but there is no more fried chicken pass 9ish in the evening. so be there arly. Drink my favourite is rose syrup with lime.

One of my fave satay at Malaysia is at Jalan Alor. Since I can order half chicken and half meat, asking to be grilled medium [sweet and juicy uhmmmmm ....] and no need peanut sauce.

Street vendors and hawkers: Menang Menang
  • Tip Rating:
  • As I am very much eager to know the lifestyle of the people living in KL, I tried to get up early and check out some of the local foods and street foods around. But, unfortunately I did not tried it. I just took a photo of the restaurant. This small restaurant is near from our Hotel. I think they were just preparing for the lunch or maybe breakfast as you can see in my picture, there isn't no people around yet. But I did tried a local food, it's also spicy and hot! Like where I live now.
