Our group of 13 took the advice of a member who on a previous visit had eaten at the street restaurants on Jalan Alor. A beautiful Asian night setting with the road closed to normal traffic and the street turned into a giant restaurant.
Choice was unlimited with 50 or more restaurants to choose from. They were not proper restaurants as the dining room was a busy road during daylight hours and the Restoran was a small kitchen in a building facing the road.
Everything looked fantastic at night with bright lights, cold beers and any Asian food you desired. My wife and I each had a whole grilled fish, when I asked what type of fish it was the reply was "Monkey Fish". The only monkey was myself!
The rest of our group dined on everything but fish, it was their lucky night. My wife was OK, however for the next 5 days I drank water and once tried to eat a very small bowl of white rice.

lots of dining options here in Malaysia since the Country is a Multi Ethnic State hence you would see many roadside eateries and hoe in the wall dining joints and even fast food courts and hawker centers all around the Kuala Lumpur area the hodge pode mix includes Malay Restaurants, Chinese restaurants, Indian Restaurants, Thai Restaurants and more. Eating out in Malaysia is a real gastronomic adventure. There is such a great variety; spicy Malay Food, a seemingly endless variety of Chinese food, exotic cuisine from North and South India, as well as Nyonya and Portuguese Food. Popular Malaysian dishes include satay, nasi lemak, rendang, roti canai, murtabak, laksa, chicken rice, and fried noodles. Western cuisine is also easily available. In addition, international fast food chains operate in major towns side by side with thousands of road side stalls and food bazaars.
Favorite Dish: a lot, my favorites are Roti Canai or Prata, Mee Goreng, Beehon Goreng, Bah Ku Teh, Nasi Padang, Nasi Lemak, Sup Daging, Naan Bread, Murtabak and a way lot more! prices can be as low as RM 4 for a meal and as high as RM 20 if it is a 2 viand meal with biryani rice.

the Lot 10 Hawker Centre is tucked beneath the Lot 10 complex by Isetan across from Bukit Bintang. it's one of 14 different stalls, each featuring a specific food category and you'll find char kway teow in the Fried Noodles/Lobak area. and no, this definitely isn't your dad's hawker market. for one, it's open all day long and closes rather early at 9 pm! it's indoors and underground, swathed in neon orange and dull browns with a minimalist sorta feel.
Favorite Dish: char kway teow isn't a diet dish. it's quite the opposite of atkins and i've yet to find one person that considers it healthy. it's made with rice noodles, fat and flat, just like the ones used for thai rad na. but that's where the similarities end. it's definitely not soupy. it's fried, almost charred...with perfectly unovercooked morsels of mussels, shrimp and squid. it's served to you piping hot, fresh from the wok. you take 2 condiments served in their own miniature bowls: a heap of sauteed garlic and a mountain of red chillies drowned in a soy-like sauce. you throw both at your pile of steaming noodles, you dig in and then you're in heaven...for roughly around 4 ringgits which translates to but 1 US dollar.

I can't exactly remember the name of this place, but if you head down the end of Petaling Street (pretty sure it was Petaling) in China Town, you will find a place that claim to be the "Seafood Specialists". If you don't eat seafood, don't let this put you off because I don't either.
This place is fantastic ... it's got a great atmosphere, you'll meet heaps of other tourists to share your stories with, the food is great and the service is excellent. The price is also great ... we ordered Kway Teow, Squid dish, chicken dish, satays, and had 4 long neck Tigers and 2 stubbies and it came to about AU$25. That's pretty good value!
This was by far my favourite place to eat in KL.
Favorite Dish: The Kway Teow noodles were the best I'd ever had. You know how Kway Teow is often just lacking that little extra soy sauce punch? Well, they give you that extra punch!
My partner also had the pepper squid (I think that's what it's called). He said that this was the best squid he's EVER had. Now he's tried a lot of squid in his time so that is a big call!
The only thing that left a little to be desired was the Satays. They were still good, just not the best ever.
I almost forgot ... the chicken and cashew dish that they do is also really good.

If you are in KL, don't miss trying one of this. located in certain corner of KL streets, Chinatown, Jln Alor, & also any nite market, surburban town centre.
I bet this is even better than Mc Donald & burger King!! Price starts from US$US$60/pc at street stall & US$0.50 at local nite bazaar. I hate Mc D after trying this.
Favorite Dish: Ramly Burger special

Restoran Kim Lian Kee is the founder of Hokkien Mee in Kuala Lumpur. Its reputation spreads beyond KL to overseas, even famous connoisseur is addicted to the eatery's Hokkien Mee, claiming that it is the best in the world. The noodle is fried with charcoal to maintain its unique taste. The noodle's fragrant aroma is attributed to the addition of thick prawn shell soup, flounder powder and pork lard and other flavourings. This dish is guaranteed to whet your appetite.
RM6 or RM7 for a single serving.
5:30pm to 4am. Closed on alternate Wednesdays
Favorite Dish: The fried noodle is served on a plate with a piece of banana leaf, which can bring out even more aroma of the noodle. The noodle is not that oily like other counterparts and the pork lards are put in moderately. You must eat the noodles together with the chilli paste with lime juice. The place is crowded but service is prompt.
After your meal, order a bowl of cool & refreshing Longan drink from the stall nearby.

It's a normal hawker / stall located at Jalan Ipoh. It's right beside a church and Caltex petrol station. It's pretty cosy actually, considering the fact that it's just beside the road. It has this huge tree covering the whole stall. It's open from morning till the wee hours of another morning. Haha... I'm not sure if they're Indian or Indian Muslim but they definitely cook Indian food.
Most of the patrons are people who frequently visit the area and people from Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac). Actors, Directors, Producers and crews all come together as one in a long table, here at this place. Most interesting thing about this place is the fact that they serve anything with kambing (lamb/mutton.) Nasi Goreng Kambing, Maggi Goreng Kambing, Mee Goreng Kambing and anything else you want with kambing. Hahaha...
Favorite Dish: Nasi Goreng Kambing, Nasi Goreng Ayam, Maggi Goreng Kambing, Apam, Tandoori Chicken, White Rice With Chicken Curry, Roti Telur, Roti Tum-Tum.

For great food at cheap prices, pop along to the hawker food stalls and small restaurants at Jalan Alor, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Chow Kit and Jalan Petaling. Try the many dishes on offer such as ikan baker (grilled fish), satay sticks and duck dishes. For dessert, durian fruit is "interesting" to try - a very "acquired" taste!!!
Favorite Dish: Peking duck, satay.

This 30-year-old stall offers delicious pig's innards soup which is hard to find in Kuala Lumpur. The stall offers fresh pig's heart, tongue, stomach, blood, streaky pork and organs. The ingredients for its signature pig's innards soup are cooked in a midly spicy pepper soup till they become tenderly soft. Customers can fully experience the taste of this great dish when servied with pickled vegetables and rice.
RM5 onwards for single serving excluding rice.
Opening hours: 5:30pm to 10:30pm. Closed on Mondays.
Favorite Dish: Eat the innards dip with some chilli paste, eat a mouthful of rice then sip a spoonful of soup. Wow... what a hearty meal ! Since the soup is boiled with pepper and pickled vegetables, you don't taste the foul smell of pig innards. Order a extra portion of particular innards if you like it. You can also order some fish or chicken porridge or chicken meat from the neighbouring stall, which is also very popular to the local.
Many public buses are stopping and parking near to the stall, so you will find it somewhat polluting to your food. Many of the old shops in front have been demolished to make way for new development. I hope this stall will not disappear with time.
