Street vendors and hawkers: Delicious Sate!
Sate with peanut sauce and ketupat(rice boiled in a coconut leaves). Enjoy your meal here with a 50cent per stick sate. Ask for chicken or beef or others. The owner, a Malay 'pakcik' (uncle) usually will be there only on weekends. Thes stall gets crowded on Saturday night.

Sate, sate, sate and more sate!!

The most special "feature" of dining by the roadside is that it will make you feel like a local, after all, that's what we travel to do, right? Experience another culture, another lifestyle.

The most common dish that you will find by Malaysia's road side stalls is Maggi Mee, either in goreng (fried) or sup (soup) style. It is just instant noodles which anyone can find in the supermarkets but the hawkers add "nutritional value" by adding an egg, and some vegetables. It's one of the fastest and simplest food that you'll be able to find.

Street vendors and hawkers: Fish Head Curry
  • Satisfaction:
  • This stall is located at the corner of a row of hawker stalls and it is recommended for its fish head curry. The crowd here is packed during the early morning right up till lunch time is over. Finding a seat is a nightmare here but you'll overcome that matter with your talent in seat seeking.

The fish head curry is thick and has an appetisingly sour tinge and comes with ladies fingers. The fried chicken and fish will be an excellent combination because it's juicy.

Street vendors and hawkers: Hawker Centre in Chinatown (Day)
  • Satisfaction:
  • Imagine this. An entire hawker centre of delicious local chow. Good tasty food. Good economical food. Budget and daring travellers: Do you feel your spidey sense tingle? (grin) Forget ambience. Forget the grime, dirt, wet floors and oily air. THINK FOOD.

The Pig Innard Porridge came highly recommended. It DELIVERS! Pieces of pig innards (including gelantinised cubes of pig's blood) cooked tender and sweet with slices of fish in congee and served with deep fried pig's intestines and sticks of fried dough ("You Char Kway"). The Yong Tau Foo (stuffed assorted vegetables) with chee cheong fun (steamed rice flour rolls) is another highly recommended item. Pieces of vegetables (eggplants, okras, chillies...all stuffed with a paste made from fish and pork and lovingly cooked). Folks who love fish will appreciate the big and tender fish balls. Want to spice up your life? Kick start it with a fiery bowl of Curry Mee. Promises to set your stomach on fire and relight your life.

Street vendors and hawkers: Grilled Fish & Seafood
  • Satisfaction:
  • This place is popular for its grilled fish among the locals and it's very cheap too. It's a corner stall behind the Surau (Small worship place for Muslims) Istana Negara and the Istana Negara itself. The shop has been there for more than 15 years and they grill the fish according to Negeri Sembilan style. The grill place is at the side of the place and you need to get your own rice from the center an choose the dishes there as well. There's a special sauce that comes with the fish and other seafoo as well such as prawns and squids. They're open from 11:00 - 15:00 and from 18:00 - 22:30

    Ikan Terubuk Bakar.
