Street vendors and hawkers: Local food wide variety
If you are looking for a safe place to eat what the locals usually take, the city market is probably one of the best recommendations.

Contrary from what we imagined, the city markets are pretty clean and are not just a bunch of tents that appear in the morning and they are gone during the night.

The city market is made of cement and inside you'll find lots of small restaurants which share a communal plaza where you can sit and enjoy your food.

There are all kinds of dishes, starting from vegetarian, curry cooked seafood and rice (pretty similar to paella).
Flavors are not so strong (not ultra hot, spicy, sweat , etc) so there is always something you'd like.

The restaurant area we choosed was a buffet style, you take what you like. At the end they weight the entire plate and as much as it weights as much as you pay!
Good idea!

Street vendors and hawkers: Nasi Lemak In KL
  • Satisfaction:
  • Many might not agree with me but I think that this is the best Nasi Lemak in town. The place is dodgy but it's popular and loads of peole from different walks of life eat here. The service is rather shameful but I'm there for the food and that's it.

It opens from 18:00 until 05:00 everyday.

Nasi Lemak with extra sambal, ayam goreng and kerang (cockles).

    Street vendors and hawkers: Chinatown
A visit to chinatown for the night market completed with an alfresco dinner in the street makes a great evening out.
Plenty of restaurants and stalls to choose from. Just look at what the diners are eating and if you fancy it sit down.

Chicken with ginger and spring onion.

Street vendors and hawkers: The Best Hokkien Noodle
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restoran Kim Lian Kee is the founder of Hokkien Mee in Kuala Lumpur. Its reputation spreads beyond KL to overseas, even famous connoisseur is addicted to the eatery's Hokkien Mee, claiming that it is the best in the world. The noodle is fried with charcoal to maintain its unique taste. The noodle's fragrant aroma is attributed to the addition of thick prawn shell soup, flounder powder and pork lard and other flavourings. This dish is guaranteed to whet your appetite.

    RM6 for single serving.
5:30pm to 4am. Closed on alternate Wednesdays

The fried noodle is served on a plate with a piece of banana leaf, which can bring out even more aroma of the noodle. The noodle is not that oily like other counterparts and the pork lards are put in moderately. You must eat the noodles together with the chilli paste with lime juice. The place is crowded but service is prompt.

Street vendors and hawkers: Tasty Rojak
  • Satisfaction:
  • I can consider this to be the best rojak mamak in the whole of Kuala Lumpur. It's the one that comes with a small white lorry and is located under the tree with benches scattered all over the place for your convenience.

Plain Rojak and Cendol with pulut.

Street vendors and hawkers: Beef Noodle
  • Satisfaction:
  • Well-established for over 60 years in Kuala Lumpur, Soong Kee is famous for its delicious beef noodle and beef ball. Fresh casserole beef is cooked for 3 hours till it becomes tender. Fully experience the unbelievable taste when served with stir-fried minced beef in sauce. Don't forget to try the eatery's handmade beef balls. The sourish chilli sauce is specially made to complement the noodle. Many of their loyal customers have patronised this restaurant for three generations.

During my high school time, I always had my lunch at this restaurant after visiting bookshop. Eventhough the portion seems to have shrunken but the quality still preserves. I was first introduced to this eatery by my parents and I have remained loyal until now. If this shop is still around in the future, I will definitely bring my next generation here :P

Opening hours: 11am to 12am. Closed on Sundays & public holidays

It is actually a stall selling fried wantan, fried yam cake , fried sweet potato ball and steamed sweet turnip dumpling. It is open every evening. The hawker said if he don't open by 6.30pm that means he is on leave.

Do try the fried wantan. it is pork meat. It is MYR0.20 per piece. The fried yam cake is also a must.
