One of the best places to buy fruits, Chinatown. They start selling the fruits from mornings till late nights. Prices are reasonable. Plus you get different fruits for different seasons. A must for fruit lovers.

This picture was taken at around 9pm at chinatown.

many many shops along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman: Silk road
  • Tip Rating:
  • Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahamn - in short Jalan TAR is now popularly known to many as the SIlk Road....there are one too many shops here selling fabrics...you name it they have it. From raw silk, to coutere fabric, to winter fabric. exquisite lace - Italain, french etc ...they all have it. Some of the prices are real ripped off - so you better bargain hard. But the choice is abundant. I went there in search of fabric with my cousin who was getting married. If you cannot get it in one store you will find it in another. Ask for about 10 pct -30 for the higher end fabric. It turned out her wedding gown would cost much less than it would have been made in Australia...even with the same fabric etc

Malaysia has slaes many times a year. We call them Mega Sales, and it happens about 3 or 4 times a year. Currently in March 2003 we are having sales all over the city in KL. Look out for specials in the newspapers.

To avoid the crowd, avoid the weekends and also lunch time of weekays. And also especially at month end when it is pay day!!!

Bukit Bintang: BB Plaza Shopping Paradise
  • Tip Rating:
  • KL is known for its shopping. For the best shopping you should go to the Golden Triangle. There are so many malls here. One of the largest in town is without doubt BB Plaza with Sungei Wang Plaza attached to it. After a week I still hadn't seen all shops and discovered new alleys. Amazing.

On the 3rd floor are all the internet shops who are among the fastest and cheapest in town.

    Don't forget to bargain!

Mid Valley Megamall: Anything you desire
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is also one of the newest malls in KL. If you take KLIA Expres or KLIA Transit from/to the airport you will see how huge it is. It is quite dislocated from the main shopping area of KL which is around Bukit Bintang, so don't try to walk there. Take a TEKSI (as the Malaysians call it). It is huge, it is easy to get around and you can spend more than one day exploring it.

Anything - grocery, food, clothes, sport equipment, stationary, jewlery, gifts, flowers,....

    Suria KLCC: ARCH Souvenier
  • Tip Rating:
  • The ARCH shop has several outlets; I have seen them in 1 UTAMA in a suburban shopping complex. The first time I shopped at ARCH was at this KLCC store, and I think it is worthwhile for tourist to consider a souvenier or a gift from this store.
Some of the art frames are available in a gift store at the KLIA airport but it costs some 10-20 pct more.

I normally buy it for some of my visiting friends, besides the Royal Selangor.

They sell framed art work. And are made of woodchips, and carved to some local scene or house scene etc. You can buy a small picture of our national kite, the wau, or classical dancers but my favourite with the architecture ones. If you have lived in Malaysia, you will be able to recognise those glorious buildings.

Prices range from a mere 40 ringgit for a 2 1/2 X3 inches to severl thousand ringgit for huge ones. You can get something decent for around RM150.

This is one of the best area in kl to shop. Good cheap restaurants to eat and shop and eat and shop again. Beers are cheap too and not to mention other snacks available nearby. So dont worry about running low on energy after shopping. You can get lots of nice cheap shirts, bags and other stuff here. Lots of fake designer bags and brands.

Get some designer purse as souveniers for your friends back home. I've got a friend in UK who goes home with one whole huge luggage of fake branded bags and fake rolex watches. I am not sure how long those watches last though. Oh, one very important thing = always remember to Bargain!!! get at least 25-40% of the `original` price.

alot if you are a compulsive shopper.
