Kuala Lumpur International Airport (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK), also known as KLIA is the international airport of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The airport is located in Sepang. In 2009, over 29.5 million passengers used the airport, covering an area 100 km2 one of the largest in the world.
The plans for the construction of the airport came in 1990 when the government the old airport (Subang International Airport) considered too small to meet the future growth. When KLIA opened in 1998 became part of scrapped Subang International Airport. Another part is currently being converted into "Subang Skypark," an airport for charter aircraft with hotels and a business district.
it is the main hub of Malaysian Airlines and is the primary gateway to Malaysia. It is one of the Modern Airports across the southeast asian region and is a rival of Changi Airport in Singapore in the number of passengers. The KLIA has two main terminals, the main terminal for the big airlines and the low cost terminals for the budget and low cost carriers and the Main terminal building or Terminal 1 is located in between the two runways. The contact pier is the rectangular-shaped terminal that is connected to the Main Terminal Building. It serves as the domestic terminal for Malaysia Airlines. Some international flights are handled there as well. Previously it used to cater to low-cost carriers' passengers. there are various modes of tranport tgoing to and from the KLIA and is about 50 kilometers away from Kuala Lumpur.
