The Petronas Twin Towers

A definite must is going to KLCC and take a photo of the Petronas Twin Towers. It not as easy though. Either take from afar or lying down. Yes, literally lying down. That is the best way to take a close up photo.

The scene of Kuala Lumpur Duty Free Int'l Depature

Kuala Lumpur Internatinal Airport is fabulous and great area to shop around and check out lates gadgets out in the market. The international departures is one of the most relaxing area while waiting to board on the plane. The Japanese architect of KLIA has brilliantly bringing the forest in the airport and redesigned airport in the forest!

Enjoy it!

The Train Station

Moorish architecture, that's what they call this famous looking train station of Kuala Lumpur.

Perhaps the only attractive thing about the train station is the look, as the trains themselves are a great disapointment - old dilapidated, frequent delays, slow-moving and of course NOISY.

Don't look into the toilets yet ! They were horrible the last time I took the train ( 30 years ? ) but maybe now they're better -- keep me informed if you can.

Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library (old building)

The Kuala Lumpur Library is formerly known as the Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library. It is housed in a modern building in the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka within the colonial district of KL.

The library served as a one stop reference centre on Kuala Lumpur and is the first in the city to use advanced technological services such as the MyKad (Malaysia's smart ID card for its citizen) for registering members as well as MEPS Cash for cashless transactions.

Previously, the library used to occupy a historical building that is dating back to 1909 next door. It is not suprising then that the new library building borrows its architectural inspiration from the the old building as well as other buildings within the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka.

Tuesday - Saturday: 9.30am - 4.30pm Sunday: 9.30am - 12.30pm

Departure All

This is probably the last thing that most tourist see as they depart the country.

After Clearing Customs on arrival at KLIA International Airport, (for those who are not aware, that's Kuala Lumpur's airport) take a lift to the 5th floor and enjoy this sight.

National Palace

Istana Negara (National Palace) built upon a hill near downtown Kuala Lumpur, is the official residence of the Yang DiPertuan Agong (The King). The Islamic architecture of the palace and its scenic surroundings attract streams of tourists.

Telekon Tower...

Blue actually not purple...

Another tower that you could only see in KL is the Telekom Tower.
It resembles a slanted cut of a bamboo trunk.
55 storeys & 310m high. Completed in 2001.
This is Telekom Malaysia head office. Telekom is the biggest telecommunication company in this country.
This whole building is blue in colour but I turned into my own art print. I am just being arty on my own country. Period.
Thank you.

LUTH Building

KL can boast some of fine & amazing architectures which can only be found in this country or any part of the world.
There are too many to list here but one of my favourites is the Lembaga & Urusan Tabung Haji (LUTH) Building in KL.
Well, if you decide to go to this building & take some photos, please don't mention 'Luth', you have to mention the full name.

Staircase rising into a mosque sanctuary

KL has a lot of interesting architecture. Of course there are the towers. Looking down on rooftops does nothing for me, but most people like the experience. It is generally possible to go about halfway up the twin towers to the "bridge" level; alternatively, you can go all the way up into the big tv tower, Menara KL, to the revolving restaurant.

Besides these two, some of my favorites are the Istana Budaya (Culture Palace), the National Library, the central post office complex (looks as if it's covered with lace featuring an islamic star motif), the Telekom buiding (brings to mind a giant sail), and the new Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan (Federal District Mosque), which are all modern.

For older buildings see the original
KL mosque, Masjid Jamek, (at the confluence of two rivers and the site of an early tin mining settlement), the original British colonial buildings at Dataran Merdeka (Independance Square), and the Buddhist and Hindu temples in Chinatown.

Check the Travelogue for photos of some of these gems.
