Chinese new year ballons at Thean Hou Temple

The Chinese buddhist Thean Hou Temple is located at the Robson Heights and was built in order to honour the Goddess Tian Hou (the heavenly mother). I was especially inpressed by those many dreagons to be found in the spectacular and colourful decorations of the temple. If you are interested in the Chinese zodiac, don't miss the statues of those animals (a popular photo spot, by the way). Many Chinese couples use the temple for their wedding ceremony. During Chinese new year, the temple is decorated with thousands of red ballons - looks great!

Thean Hou Temple is open every day from 8 pm to 9 pm.

thean hou buddhist temple

Thean Hou Buddhist Temple is said to be the largest Buddhist temple. It is also near the Mid-Valley shopping centre. It is worth a visit for Buddhist. It is also a good spot to go for taking pictures.

Family Temple - KL

One of the greatest tips for visiting anywhere is to just walk around. Get lost. Find a back alley and follow it until you can't go any further. I did that one day around KL, and it was a fantastic experience. Also very hot and sweaty. I recommend taking water with you when you go.

One of the greatest places I found was this family temple on one of the side streets in the city. They let me go in and look around, and it was fantastic to see.

KL's oldest mosque: Masjid Jamek

A gem in the city

The mosque was built in 1909 and features graceful arches and domes, creating a startling contrast against the backdrop of the city's skyscrapers.

Located where the Klang and Gombak Rivers meet, the mosque is open to the public. However, visitors must be appropriately attired, especially the ladies.

the temple at night.... courtesy of the star...

The Sri Maha Sakthi Mohambigai Amman temple unique is its location. The 100-year-old place of worship is in the midst of the busy Mid Valley Mega Mall.

The temple is guarded by two imposing figures that stand at the temple's entrance. The two giant statues, known as bhootangals, are guardians of the temple.

Apart from the statues, there is a Bodhi tree with a statue of a meditating Buddha under it. These are accompanied by sculptures of Hindu and Chinese gods, along with some spiritual masters. The temple's distinctive architecture incorporates figurines of religious gurus like Shiridi Baba, Guru Nanak, Valmiki and Buddha all around the walls.

The temple had undergone the Maha Kumbhabishegam (consecration) ceremony in 2002 and is popular with locals and foreign tourists. It is dedicated to goddess Mohambigai, a combination of Hindu goddess Parvathy, Saraswathy and Laxmi, representing power, knowledge and fortune respectively.

While my father was having his 6 mths obssesion with finding religion, he took me and a bro along in this ceremony. This was at a temple in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur... i'm sorry i can't remember exactly what is it called. This was the breaking fast of a group of meditators, and the congregation of monks. The whole idea was for ppl to come and visit, and increase your "karma". At the same time, you can donate some money to the monastery. Ppl will pray at the beginning, and then offer food to monks and fellow meditators. It is a very cool perspective of participating in a diff. culture. I believe this is an annual ritual, though i can't pinpoint an exact date. After offering food, go visit the altars, and make a prayer!

Sin Sze Si Ya Temple

THE Sin Sze Si Ya Temple is said to be the oldest Taoist temple in Kuala Lumpur.

The temple was founded by Yap Ah Loy, the third Kapitan China (Chinese Leader) of Kuala Lumpur, in remembrance of his mentor who was killed in one of the frequent feuds between the clans at the peak of the tin mining days in KL. It was named “Sze-Ya,” meaning “adviser,” which is a reflection of his mentor’s role as an adviser among his clan.

As a tribute to its founder, some spaces within the temple are dedicated to Yap Ah Loy, with his statute sit prominetly in the altars area.
