    Genting Highlands

For most people visiting Malaysia, usually they miss this awesome mountain top theme park- Resorts World Genting Highlands- Even on a tight Schedule, you can visit this awesome Genting Highlands just for a day even just half of the day because it's just 51 km from KL
It is situated on a mountain peak. It is sometimes known to be called the “Las Vegas” of Malaysia. There are lots of attractions inside and outside of the themepark.
If you wish to stay longer, there are hotels within the mountain peak.
You can also gamble since casinos are in the hotels.

You can get there by bus, book inside the KL Sentral Train Station operated by Go Genting Express Bus. It’s an hour ride at the foot of the mountain. Usually costs at RM5 one way. Then transfer in a skyway cable car (11minute) to arrive in the summit and also costs RM5 one way. Getting there by bus is the cheapest than by an express taxi costing RM60-70.
You can also have other options like buying the Go Genting Golden Package.

The climate here usually drops below 14 degrees, so I would really recommend to bring a jacket with you.
Leave before 7pm, if you wish to return to KL by bus. Bus operation ends at 8pm.
Unfortunately, my friend and I arrived at the foot of the mountain around 9pm, no bus can be seen, so we have no choice but to take a taxi. Luckily we rode with some new found friends (Locals). We paid the driver RM25 each making it a total of RM100.

mountain theme park let the show begin just got out of the cable car

    Casinos Galore

by machomikemd Updated May 18, 2011

the only gambling area of malaysia and All are owned by Casino De Genting (Resorts World) Being the largest, they have more card table games here and they have more baccarat gaming tables and 21 gaming tables than in the smaller Starworld Casino in First World Plaza but as in there, there is a preponderance of chinese centered card games like Chinese games such as tai sai and pai gow which outnumber the baccarat tables by a factor of 4 to 1. There are roulette gaming tables too and they also have a higher bet limit area and best of all they also have a Foreign VIP room for Foreign High Rollers, they just have to present their passport and they can enter the VIP Room (i'm not a high roller ok, just a two bit gambler hehehe) and again the minimum bet for card games like baccarat or pai gow is RM 25 and for the rouletteat RM 10 and for the higher limit tables at RM 50 and above. And again if you want to play the many slot machines then apply for a Resorts World Card (hey it's free ok) then you can start playing the slot machines at RM 1 per bet minimum.

dress code is no slippers or Tank Tops and again, Muslim Malaysian Citizens are mot allowed inside so the crowd is mostly Malaysian Chinese and also the card dealers and the pit bosses.

there is no entrance fee or show money needed, again the casino here maybe big but ares still smaller than south east asian standards for casinos (15,000 square feet).

Eat and Be Merry at Genting

by machomikemd Updated May 18, 2011

lots of dining and shopping and food plus bars and don't forget the Starworld and Monte Carlo Casinos.
walking around the huge Genting Highlands Complex can be daunting if you are not the type who wants to walk winding roads and steep stairs going to and from the various hotels and the various shops and attractions around but one thing is that you would hardly get tired since the weather is nippy and the sun is not that hot since the altitude of the area is about 5,700 feet above sea level. The place is all interconnected by walkways or roads and staircases but if you have time in your hands, just take the free shuttle buses cruising all around the complex but be patient on the long waiting times on the bus stops or rather rides the taxis and negotiate the price since most do not use their taxi meters. It is nice to walk around the Genting Highlands since the air is nippy and you won't get tired easily and you would enjoy the various sites and can eat at the many snacks and restaurants around

the scenic 15 minute ride. how to ride the skyway, the genting skyway is located at the Gotong Jaya area and is about 1500 feet above sea level and all tourist buses and private vans pass by here so that tourists and locals get a chance to ride the 3.5 kilometer slow ride to the top of the Genting Highlands aboard this cable car where the average ride will last 11 minutes along the lush tropical forests of the genting highlands and it really gets foggy at the top. The station allows hotel and luggage check-in procedures to be completed at the station itself. Its upper station is located at the Highlands Hotel of Genting Highlands Resort. Genting Skyway can carry more than 2,000 people per hour each way with 8 passengers per gondola. This is the newer Sky Way, the older skyway is the Awana Skyway (i did not have time to ride the Awana Skyway).

    Highlands Hotel

by machomikemd Updated May 18, 2011

this is the flagship hotel of the Resorts World Genting and is the second most expensive among the 6 hotels in the Genting highlands area (the most expensive is the Maxims Hotel nearby where all rooms are Suite and an average room costs RM 1000 a night) where you will see an assortment of Bugatti or Lamborghini or Ferrari Cars waiting at the Outside area for a room. The rooms here are way bigger than the First World Hotel and again the standard here is no air conditioning but High Mounted Ceiling Fans. They have the largest casino table and a separate high roller casino tables located near the entrance to the Arcade going to the cable cars. They have a smaller shopping arcade than first world hotel but the restaurants and bars here are more expensive. It houses the Elite Club, the 6-star standard hotel rooms at its top most floor. It houses also the Genting Skyway upper station, the cable car ride station for people to go up to Genting Highlands Resort from the lower station located near Gohtong Jaya. Along with Genting Hotel and Resort Hotel, it houses the Casino de Genting, one of the major casino of Genting Highlands Resort, along with Starworld casino located at First World Hotel.

Unique Qualities: the rooms here are bigger than the others with the exception of the Maxims Hotel because all rooms in the Maxims are Suites. This is the first stop of all genting stops from the cable car and all people taking the cable car to and from genting pass my this luxe hotel. Prices of rooms here start awt RM 400 aw night awnd check in is 2:00 pm awnd aw caveat, it is hard to get aw reservation in this Highlands hotel since this is the favored hotel by the local and foreign bigwigs who often go to Genting hence a preponderance of Luxury Vehicles at the Concierge.

    First World Plaza

by machomikemd Updated May 18, 2011

the main shopping and dining and entertainment area of Genting (the more high end is at The Genting Shopping Plaza). the First World Plaza is the largest shopping area of the Genting Highlands Complex hence most of the people visiting the Genting Highlands usually go here to shop or dine or do other activites like riding the various rides of the indoor theme park. You will see various food courts and snacks, assorted local stores selling local souvenir items and local handicrafts, assorted restaurants plus the indoor theme park, a cineplex, a Watersplash Pool (an indoor water theme park for children), Genting Sky Venture (a skydiving simulator), Starworld casino (yes I love to gamble hehehe but this is smaller than Casino de Genting at Genting Hotel), bowling center, Genting International Convention Center, the Pavilion (for local and international acts performing in it), Haunted Adventure and a Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum so Need I say more?

What To Buy: depends on what you like for example buying souvenirs like refrigerator magnets for RM 8 and shot glasses at RM 9 and eating at the food courts, buying local crafts or just plain malling.

    First World Hotel

by machomikemd Updated May 18, 2011

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

it is a third class budget hotel in the Genting Highlands Area and it has the larges shopping cum dining cum amusement park area in the Genting Highlands area. This huge hotel is the fourth largest hotel in the world by room counts at 6118 rooms (although the rooms especially the standard ones are really small hehehe) of which the Palazzo in Las Vegas is the largest hotel at present). First World Hotel is adjoined to the First World Plaza, which boasts 500,000 sq feet of indoor theme park, shopping centre and food galore (please see my separate tips on these establishments ok). First World remains one of the favourite hotel among holiday makers in Genting Highlands and this joint is Operated by Resorts World Genting which also owns the Upscale Hotel Genting Nearby.

esides being the fourth largest hotel in the world (again the rooms are very small see my pictures but if you upgrade to a world club room then it will be bigger). The Tv has no remote so you have to operate is manually and is not connected to international TV channels. They have no air conditioning but only ceiling fans (but hey it is already cold here at 5,700 feet above sea level ok). Just nearby is the casino and the amusement park and the first world plaza.

a caveat: checking in here especially on a friday can really bew a hassle as we waited for 2 hours just to get 4 rooms for our group.

While every one is gung ho about outdoor theme park do take time to visit indoor theme park. The attractions like eurorail,4D magic are very good. Also the shops are fair in terms of clothes but not so much in terms of food.Do take you water bottle along. As for shopping i bought a jacket there and it was only slightly overpriced as compared to kualalumpur.

It is the second hotel to be built in Genting Highlands Resort after Theme Park Hotel to cope with the immense volume of people because of the relocation of two casinos which was initially located inside Theme Park Hotel. Along with Resort Hotel and Highlands Hotel, it houses Casino de Genting, one of the main casinos at Genting Highlands Resort along with the Starworld casino in First World Hotel.
