Genting Highlands, Kuala Lumpur
We made the mistake of spending 3 nights here as part of our Malaysian holiday. Big mistake. The place is a dump. Unless you want to spend all your time at the casino, or in the kiddie amusement park, don't go near the place. There are no decent restaurants or things to do. Avoid at all costs.
Jump on a Genting Bus, and take a trip to the Genting Highlands. It is an extreme contrast to the heat of the city. Dont forget to take a jumper as it is so much cooler up there!!!
The skyrail up to the Genting Resort is full of the most beautiful sights. Dont forget to spot the elephants and tigers on the way up!!
Once there, you have so many choices. The resort is huge. There is a hotel, casino, outdoor theme parks, indoor theme parks, snow theme parks, restaurants, shopping centres and so much more. Go for one day or take in more than one theme park and stay over!!! Something here for everyone.
We took a mini van up to the Genting Highlands then a cable car which only cost $8.00 aust return through the jungle and up to the resort and spent half a day there although we could of spent two full days!
The resort consisted of a hotel, casino an indoor and outdoor theme park!
We didn't have any time to go to the outside theme park except for having a look at it however we enjoyed a yummy lunch and spent most of the time in the hotel and indoor theme park!
Be warned that it is cooler in the genting highands, so be sure to wear pants or a light jumper!
You will love this place, it's almost one hour drive using the bus from KL.
At the base you can take uphill trip using the "Skyway" cable car you will feel like trekking in the jungles and as you move up your suspense and excitment increase.
At the top you will feel like you are in a different place away from the whole world. The landscape from top is fascinating and the mixture of mountains, fogs and greenery is amazing.
The weather is a bit cooler but bearable, you can bring some heavy cloths if you wish.
There are different things you can do up there:
1) Trying the inside theme park, most of the games are suitable for kids
2) Trying the outdoor theme park, lots of thrilling and adventureous games ranging between roller coasters to water games.
3) Shopping, lots of garments, optics, and souvenir shops
4) Restaurants and cafe shops
5) Live shows, especially the H2O water show. However if you are planning to see any of these shows you have to stay up to 9:0 PM this when the show starts. This is tricky because the last bus leaves at 7:0 or 8:0 PM I guess. And I think they made it on purpose so that you are forced to stay the night at one of the hotels there, unless you want to take a private cab. But don't worry the room rates are very affordable.
6) Panoramatic view from the top and a gallery about the resort.
I would advise you to take a look at their website to get more details ...
Bring back my memory at 2000, going to Genting Highlands with several buddies, like Yuri and Andrej [actually they're Russian but residents of Rome, Italy]. I visit a temple there, meanwhile the guys go gambling and I just company. On the way home, three of us just suprised, "Shhhhhhhh, can you see that? A car with F1 Ferrari banner and sticker?" I said. And Yura [Yuri's nickname] answered, "Da ... eto Ferrari. Maybe Michael [Schumacher] in there playing Russian Roulette something?" and Andrej commented to us, "Bloody idiot, he must be in the training room at Sepang." Hahahhaa :)
While visiting KL a trip to Genting Highlands is a must. That place is so full of life with so much activity all around that it absolutely has to figure on everyone's must go place.
Since this place is at a higher altitude the weather is also better than what one gets in KL. This place is like one big Carnival, 5 hotels in the area, a big amusement park, Movie theater, Casino, Live shows featuring illusionists / magicians, umpteen eating options...It's totally A L I V E !!!

Genting Highlands Resort lies atop the mountainous/hilly regions and cool, misty weather awaits heat weary visitors. The family-oriented resort also boasts high-tech amusement parks, a casino, nightclubs and a couple of golf courses too. The kids would love the place, no doubt about that.
You may chill of at Genting Highlands by taking a bus at Puduraya Bus Station. You can purchase return tickets too. Tickets were sold at 5.80 for a single trip fare which includes of the skyway cable ride to Genting highlands.
Genting highlands is a casino combined with a theme park in the mountains outside Kuala Lumpur. I was quite surprised when I read that it is located in 2000 meters altitude. When I went there we seemed to get further and further out in the jungle and the air was a lot cooler and a lot fresher there compared to in KL itself.
