Menara Telecommunications Tower - Kuala Lumpur

Being the 7th tallest tower in the world at a standing height of 421m makes a Malaysian like me proud of my country. It's located on a hilltop called Bukit Nenas. Apparently, you can see Port Klang from the observation deck, which is very amazing because Port Klang is located far west of the city. The last time I went to the tower was when I had to take some foreign friends, which was in 1999. That's a very long time to know about any updates but I'm very proud with what our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir has done for his countrymen.

For all roundmarvellous views of KL the communications tower is your best option. Fast lift to the indoor observation deck, usual array of shops and cafes here. Dusk is a great time to visit, watch as the city lights up. Not too easy to get to, follow signs to Kl menara, there is a free shuttle from the entrance up the steep hill.

Menara KL

For first timers to KL, this is definitely one of the first place that you should visit. From Menara KL you can see all the places that need to be seen in KL. From Merdeka Square to the Museums, the Twin Towers and the bird park, butterfly park. All in all , everything there is offered by KL.

Directions: In the middle of Bukit Nanas Rainforest. By monorail go to Bukit nanas station. Turn right, hard rock cafe should be right across the street. Follow the road upward, or if you don't want to be tired, go by taxi

Forget the Petronas Towers - this is the place to see the city. The taxi fare should include the toll road. Foget the stuff at the bottom of the Tower and head on up in the large internal lifts. On coming out of the lift take the headset offered - the audio tour is linked to the sectors around the viewing gallery, is very informative and easy to use. Panels explain how it was built and shows the tallest towers in the world. Lookout for the camel!! You may become so engrossed you may not realise you are going round a second time. One other worthwhile thing to do (though my wife would now disagree) is to take the jungle trek (to the right at the bottom of the entry steps). After the descending rope walkway this offers a variety or routes down to the bottom of the hill. If lucky you will see a family of monkeys returning to the area from a foraging trip. Once at the bottom you can get a taxi and it will be cheaper.

If you can't get enough of tall buildings you should visit: Menara KL. It's 421 metres above ground and the fourth tallest telecommunication tower in the world. It may soon be the third tallest as Ostankino Tower in Moscow was badly damaged by a fire and is not operating at the moment. > CN Tower in Canada 553 m. Ostankino Tower in Russia 537m. Shanghai Tower in China 450m. Menara KL was built to improve the quality of telecommunication services and broadcasting. In the towerhead is an observation platform equipped with binoculars for the visitors to enjoy the panoramic view. One level up there is a revolving restaurant.

It should, as the audio guide/commentary mentioned, be one's first stop in KL as it would give one a general idea of the locations of the landmarks and tourist attractions. The observation deck also sits at 421m high, which means you can see as far as the horizon, and you can be sure there's lots to see! There's also an imprint on glass of the highest telecommunications towers in the world, which makes for good picture taking. Finally, at the ground floor, you can find glass decorations called "muqarnas", which was designed and made in Iran, a impressive, glittering ceiling. There is an entrance fee of RM15/-.
