National Virtual Arts Gallery is near the Tasik Titiwangsa (Lake), around 6KM north of City Centre. The current Art Gallery building has been operating since 1998. Previously, the National Art Gallery was situated in two different locations including Dewan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (1952-1984) and current Hotel Masjestic (1984-1998). Both Art Galleries have unique colonial style architecture, unlike the current building has no symbolic of art form, neither modern nor classical nor cultural.

This could be the largest permanent art gallery in Kuala Lumpur. It is a four-storey building and three storeys are opened to the public with two exhibition halls on each level. On the ground floor, you will expect to see the Malaysians contemporary art gallery of local artists and the cartoon drawing exhibitions by local cartoonists. On the second floor, you will find local children arts gallery and special exhibition of current event. On the third floor, you will find ceramic and metal and wood sculptures by local artist.

From my photos, you will see the following:

    1) NcLemak by Goh Chi Kuan

( Use Acrylic on canvas; A pack of Nasi Lemak can be sold from a street vendor or coffee shop. It is the most favorite food among Malaysians of all races in Peninsular Malaysia including myself. )

    2) Freedom 1957 (Merdeka 1957) by Suhaimi Fadzir

( Use Mixed Media; The art demonstrate the struggle of Independent of Tungku Abdul Rahman in 1957)
    * Suhaimi Fadzir is one of the talented local artists . He was the recipient of the Dublin Biennial 2012 award of excellence and won many art and architecture awards worldwide.

It is worth visiting if you are into local art scene.

National Art Gallery is a modern (almost pyramid) looking building located on Jalan Tun Razak in the vicinity of Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa Lake Garden). Originally, there were 3 levels (6 gallery halls) for art exhibitions. But on my recent visit, it was down to 2 levels (4 gallery halls) of exhibition space.

The center of the National Art Gallery is a New York Guggenheim Museum kind of huge spiral ramp leading visitors from Level 1 all the way up to Level 3. Although this museums has some good art shows, the architecture of this building is ugly and uninspiring. Try to ignore the architecture, and got soaked into the local art scene.
