Sultan Abdul Samad was Malaysia's icon before the Petronas twin towers were built. It also has a fascinating Gothic architecture. Thus, a photo stop should be worth it.

This handsome historical building used to be the symbol of Kuala Lumpur. However, it has made way to Petronas Twin Tower. It is located at Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) and it used to be the high court. The high court has recently moved to a brand new building outsde of downtown KL. This is the historical place where the ceremony of Independence of Malaysia was held in 1957. At midnight of 31st August 1957, the Union Jack was lowered here and marked the independence of Malaysia. That is the moment that marks the birth of Malaysia. The independence day parade is stil held here every year.

This is my favourite building in KL. The building was completed in 1897 after a 2 year construction. There are gleaming copper domes and a 130-meter clock tower and it is sited just across the road from Dataran Merdeka. It is a fantastic blend of Moghul, Moorish, Arab, and British neoclassical architecture. It is a style far more expressive of the British colonial imagination than the local Malay culture. Today, it is houses the Judicial Dept and InfoKraft , whihc is a centre for Malaysia handicraft.

This stately building opposite the Independence Square is a major landmark of the city. Built in 1897 to house several important government departments during the British administration, the building is now occupied by the Supreme Court and the Textile Museum. With its Moorish-inspired structure, shiny copper dome and a 40m high clock tower, the landmark also serves as a backdrop for important events such as National Day and New Year celebrations.
