Well if you ever wanna catch the train to KLIA or Putrajaya /Cyberjaya be sure to use the KLIA express. You can catch the KLIA Express at KL Sentral. The trains is beautiful and spacous inside and cool from the AirCon. Nice Lcd monitors all over so you don`t have a dull ride to your destination. I would definitely recommend a ride in here if you going to take a international flight in KLIA. Unfortunately it does`nt go to the LCC "Low Cost Carrier" terminal if you flying with Air Asia.
A friend of mine sent me this message - thot there maybe some folks who want to save every dollar and dime -
For those frequent travellers who want to save $$$ but have plenty of time to spare in changing and waiting for trains.
Sentral to Putrajaya: RM9.50
P'jaya to KLIA: RM6.20
Sentral to Salak Tinggi: RM12.50
Salak Tinggi to KLIA: RM3.20
Total for above is RM15.70. Direct from Sentral to KLIA - RM35.
The KLIA Express that runs between KL Sentral Station and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the fastest and proabably best way to travel between the airport, over 80km south of KL, and the city itself.
A oneway ticket will cost you RM30. The added bonus of the whole amazingly organised and well thought out system is that if you are flying Malaysia Airlines or Cathy Pacific, you can check in KL Sentral Station. Your check-in baggage is taken right there! So you can swan around KL for a few hours (if you check in early enough), or head out to KLIA to plane watch for a while!
This was, as far as i know, one of only 2 ways to get from KLIA to KL city. And it seems they have made full use of that fact as the charge for a 28 minute train ride cost RM35/-, or RM70/- for a return ticket (the other way, of course, was by cab, and they also quote ridiculous rates, if you don't go by the metre).
It was quite scenic though, as you could see (i think) Putrajaya, the administrative capital and plantations.
But a word of advice is, since there's no savings in buying the return ticket, you might as well just grab the one-way one, and maybe on the way back from KL, you could find a cheaper cab?
Overall though, the frequency was every 15 minutes during peak hours (and 20 for off peak) and the train ride was quite a clean and pleasant one. Also, there seems to be empty seats even during peak hours, so, that was convenient!
The best way to get to the city from the airport. You can buy the RM35 ticket while waiting for your baggage at the carousel. Once you've got the luggage, follow the purple signs to the platform. The trains leave every 15 minutes or so and take you right to the Central Station. The journey itself is only 28 minutes and you are entertained with tv's showing what's happening in Malaysia and news from around the world. From there you can either pay for a taxi at the counter which costs about RM18 for a large taxi to the Westin Hotel, right on Bukit Bintang. Or you can go outside and stand at the taxi rank.
If you do this make sure you tell the driver where you're going and if they try to tell you to pay an amount tell them you want a meter. If they say no just ask the next taxi. The fare should only be about RM8 - RM10 from the Central Station to Bukit Bintang.
There is another option where you pay RM100 and that gets you a one way ticket on the KLIA Ekspres and a Mercedes pickup at Central Station to take you to the hotel. A second person travelling adds another 35rm to the RM100 fare.
Not a bad deal really if you can't be bothered dealing with the taxi drivers.
While in KL when you want to take a cab, tell them where you are going and they will say yes or no. Then you want to make sure they use the meter as they will get you with the negotiated prepaid rate if they can. It' a real downside of visiting KL, you would think the taxi drivers would want any fare available but if they don't want to go where you're going they won't. Remember - you need a metered fare.
KLIA Express of train will take you from KLIA to KL Sentral to KLIA. It costs you RM 35 per trip as Jan 2005, quite expensive for me.
Easy peasy and truely comfy. Upsy dipsy your luggage and buy ticket about RM30 from KLIA Airport to KL by KLIA Ekspres. Only 25 minutes and the last train is about 00.00 at the midnight.
