Located on the main hill in Putrajaya, this building houses the Malaysian Prime Minister office. The complex is built 50 metres from the water level and the design was inspired by the Islamic and Moghul arts. The structural design is influenced by Malay, Islamic and European cultures as such Palladian and Neoclassicism. It was designed by aQidea Architect (AR Ahmad Rozi Abd Wahab being the Principal Architect) with an inspiration from the former prime minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad. You can visit Perdana Putra on Monday - Saturday as it is open to the public on these days. |
Situated next to a lake, it incorporates Islamic architecture from countries such as Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Morocco. The mosque can accommodate 15,000 people (and yet it still overflows with people during Friday prayers...). Based on Central Asian Islamic design with a distinctive Persian dome and a 116 metres minaret, this mosque was inspired by the Sheikh Omar Mosque of Baghdad. Its five-tiers represent the five pillars of Islam and its five calls to prayers. Within its premises is the VIP Room Gallery, the Al-Quran Manuscript Museum, a library, auditorium and exhibition hall as well as a seminar room. It also has a large courtyard called the “Sahn” dedicated to commemorate the life of the Prophet. The main entrance to the mosque is patterned after the gates of Persia. |
The crowd frequenting Dataran Putra (Putra Square) and Selera Putra (eateries) located across the lake are often caught gaping at it in sheer fascination. A huge grey mansion in a distance across the Putrajaya Lake often attracts attention. Istana Darul Ehsan or Darul Ehsan Palace is split into six stories and serviced by lifts. The exterior is plain grey in color, opulent to the highest degree. There are a number of rooms within the palace including the sultan's well-guarded private quarters and his personal library. Darul Ehsan Palace is the weekend palace of the Sultan of Selangor. |
