Favorite thing: Labuan has its own postage stamp starting 1876 showing Queen Victoria. Labuan was ceded to the British by the Sultan of Brunei in 1846,
In fact, Labuan Town was once called "Victoria Town"
Starting 1894, North Borneo (present Sabah) stamps overprinted with "Labuan" was used as Labuan was incorporated into North Borneo.
In 1906, Labuan was administered together with Straits Settlements (with Penang, Malacca and Singapore).
During World War II, when occupied by Japanese forces, "Japanese Characters" were overprinted on Straits Settlement stamps were used as Labuan. The Japanese renamed Labuan as "Maeda-shima".
After the war, Labuan rejoined North Borneo and became independent as part of Sabah State in Malaysia. In 1984, Labuan was made into a Federal Territory and used Wilayah Persekutuan stamps like Kuala Lumpur and later Putrajaya.
