We ate here on my birthday and it was very yummy. I had mussels as a starter and boiled maldivian lobster as a main course, which was well worth the money. Service was brilliant.
The Bonthi
Although we had an excellent meal at the The Beach, when we go again we will probably just stick to the Bonthi which is the restaurant for the Beach Bungalows. Every night was themed. While we there they had French night, Italian night, Maldivian night, Indian night, Seafood night and on and on. The food was really good, and once again so was the service.
Mohammed was our server and we never had to wait very long for a drink. He often beat us to the table to pull our chairs out for us, and he was always smiling.
Table Sharing:
You may have to share a table with another couple, this was one idea that didn't really appeal to us. However, we sat with a lovely couple with whom we really clicked so it worked to our benefit. In general it seemed that most people there were very relaxed and just wanted to have a good time. And it was nice getting to exchange snorkelling stories. The couple we sat with were there for 1 week, when they left we had a table to ourselves (and missed their company).
There was at least 6 salad choices and the soup of the day, and a nice selection of fresh bread.
On to the main course there was so much to choose from. There was always rice available. The chicken was tasty they are smaller peices then you would expect to see in the UK or USA but you are in the Indian Ocean you can't expect everything to be the same as it is at home. The fish was great and cooked on a grill right in front of you, my favorite was grilled fish with lemon butter sauce.
Sirloin strips with pepper sauce another of my favorites, pork with pineapple sauce I could go on and on.
Usually we said we were going to have a light meal and then ended up with a bit of everything on our plates. The food was great it is prepared by professional chefs, and the selection was way to much to eat at one sitting. We only ate lunch and dinner but once again lunch was very pleasing.
There was usually about 5 choices for dessert and a fresh fruit platter. We didn't have room for dessert most nights, but I did try blueberry mousse and rum balls both of which were very good. I think you would have to be a very picky eater to have a problem with the food they serve.
