Dont miss the "milkmaid"
Dont miss the "milkmaid" !
that stands for "take a walk into the sidestreets" and in Male you might really get to a place with this lovely old-fashioned commercial of the milkmaid (my main photo), in a distance of maybe 50 meters from the fish-market.
The local population did not care a lot for me taking my photos there, everybody was nice to me and I felt perfectely safe everywhere in this place.
The fishmarket of Male
The fishmarket is an interesting place to go to and see some exotic fishes and maybe take some great photographs. It was great for me to see that tourists are welcome there, even though it was clear from the beginning that we just came in order to take photographs instead of buying anything from the vendors there.

The modern part of Male
On the beachfront you will also find quite a modern part of Male Island, with lots of Banks, offices and companies. I really did not like that part very much and i would also say that staing in this island does not make a lot of sense, when you are planning a vacation on the Maledives. This island is perfect for some hours of sightseeing, but for a relaxing vacation on the beach : NO !
A strange cube house
Sometimes Male turns out unexpected surprises... among the white concrete buildings - functional but very far from charming - there comes a little jewel of architecture. A cube house that would not look out of place in Rotterdam or anywhere else in the Netherlands. A very unexpected and bizarre sight: we went close to it and appreciated its functionality (it's Male after all, it needs to be functional); the cube part outside is simply a panel, and does not belong to the real structure (skeleton?) of the house. Interesting!
