When taking a walk around Male, this cafe makes a great opportunity to cool down and grab a snack.
I enjoyed a light salad selection which included leaves, meat and cheese and was served with bread.
Favorite Dish: The salad was nice and somewhat different.

The guidebook mentions several coffee houses and restaurants around Male - we managed to find only one - the Ocean Cafe. It looked nice and welcoming but...
Favorite Dish: it was Ramadan - thus it stayed closed. We just read the menu - appealing - but we couldn't sample it. Bummer.

Address: Male island
the seahouse maldives is a recently opened restaurant i think. we were there to shoot a sequence of our anchor trying out some local dishes there, much of which was fish based- more specifically- tuna based.
the restaurant is located right next to the ferry (dhoni) dock, and affords great views of the sea and of the airport on the island beyond...
Favorite Dish: we tried the local dish too- sadly, between all the activity that goes on around the shoot, i didnt catch its name. its a rice based dish- mixed with tuna and served with chapatis and a boiled egg. quite nice and a bit spicy.

I have been to a few Muslim countries before. In the middleast and some other countries-men are separate from the women. In the evening we spent in Male, we hardly saw any women. This was a problem, since we wanted to eat at a local Maldivian restaurant -not tourist chow. We knew that we would be semi welcomed by these men, but i felt a litlte uncomfortable. We decided to go anyway and had a great time.
They had chicken briyani, curries, fresh chipati, other breads and sweetes. The chicken curry was quite nice. The sweets-a doughnut thing cut in half and filled with icing was very sweet. Most men finish the dinner off with beetlenut.

We had a table on our own on the beach for approx 40 USD, this comprises of a 4 course meal and your private waiter. They created such a romantic feel only 3 metres from the sea lapping gently on the beach. They surround the table with candles which acts twofold, keeps the mossies down and gives of a lovely glow.
The waiter made us feel like royalty. The food was top class, mainly fresh fish with fresh fruit to end.
I had bought the engagement ring in London before we flew here, unbeknown to Michelle. So this was the perfect oppertunity to pop the question, thankfully she said "yes". But who would`nt in such a perfect setting.
Favorite Dish: All the varieties of fish were cooked to perfection and served with skill. A real credit to the Maldivian ways.
