  • Don't leave without sunscreen & bite cream!

    by becks5000 Written Jan 23, 2004

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Don't need shoes as it's sand everywhere, including in the restaurant!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: If you burn easily P20 is the best sunscreen I've used. Put it on 90 mins before going out and don't need to re-apply, even after swimming. Mossie spray and bite cream in case you get jelly fish stings.

Photo Equipment: Disposable underwater cameras. They're more expensive to buy on the island. Definitely worth having for snorkling.

  • Useful !

by kissgurami Written Apr 24, 2004

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: lots of sun block lotion!! the toiletries provided by the resort were so-so. SO it's best to bring your one and a new bottle of conditioner. It tends to fritz out ur hair.

Photo Equipment: Bring spare underwater disposal cameras. it cost US20 per camera at Maldives Shop. There were too many underwater pix to take that we had to buy one even though we brought 2 along :p

Miscellaneous: Lots of Mineral Water. Coz the tapwater is salty and defintely not drinkable. No tea/coffee making facilities in the resort. Every 1.5 litre of water cost US3. snorkelling n swimming tend to dry u out.

Easy to get a sunburn while snorkelling

by Gard Written Jun 6, 2004

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: It is easy to get a sunburn in the strong sun while snorkelling. I got a bit of a burn the first day so I had to wear a t-shirt while I was in the water the next few days. The nest time I go on a beach vacation like this I think I will buy one of those t-shirts that are made for wearing in the water.

    Underwater Explorer Camera

    by kirsty_lamb Written Apr 15, 2006

Photo Equipment: An underwater camera may be of use in you are going scuba diving or snorkelling. You may be able to get one on your island. This is what we did as we hadn't though about it before, but we got some nice pics of some fish! Nice reminder of what it was like as it was our first time snorkelling.

    No Alcohol

    by kph100 Written Sep 1, 2006

Miscellaneous: Because Maldives is a muslim country you are not allowed to bring any alcohol into the country. Do not try and beat this as they x ray youre luggage as you enter to check.

You can of course buy alcohol at the resort bars.

    Nice & Sunny.... Be Prepared.

by Emichelle Written Dec 24, 2007

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: It can be very Uncomfortable if you don't get the right clothes. Since the weather is hot and humid it is advisable that you take along with you Nice Soft Linnen & Cotton Clothing. On the resorts you can be with the least clothing as its your choice how you wish to dress.

Make sure you also carry your swim ware. ( Its a little obvious LOL )

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Suntan Lotion - for those of you who wish take away a nice tan back home.

Sunblock - for those of you who wish to protect what you have.

Photo Equipment: Underwater Camera - It is a must cause you will most probably have an opportunity to get some nice underwater pictures.

    Take your snorkel

by wto Written Jul 4, 2003

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Invest in your own snorkelling equipment. It's cheaper than hiring & more expensive in the island shop. You'll be going again! So it will be worth the cost at home.
