mosquito repellant is must to be carried along

by margretpears

cloths should be very light as it is humid and hot there.nothing can be more appropriate than beach suits. just if one is using any medicine regularly that should must be carried along otherwise most of the medicine is available with other generic name. a web cam must be carried along.

Pack Light

by trevndebs

Soft sided bags are better suited if your onward conncetion is by seaplane. Light cotton clothes are a must, sarongs and swimwear for the ladies in the day but shirts are required in the restaurant. You really can go 2 weeks without your shoes but the sand and the wooden piers do get HOT in the sun!AT Hakuraa, the hotel supplied each room with 2 kagools incase of rain but a small umberella works just as well. Very limited supplies although for more serious matters, the capital island of the attol is only 20 mins by boat away and the hotel arrange a free transfer boat to get you to hospital. The manager in his welcome speech welcomes being left any medical supplies that are not used. The shop did have 35 mm film and the dive shop hires out underwater film cameras. Suncream and aftersun is sold in the island shop at $15 per bottle.Pack lots!!

Where are all the mosquitos?

by Conflictrealms

When visiting the maldives, I made sure I took plenty of mosquito repellent. However, after spending a week there, I didnt see one mosquito at all... Though I do think this was probably just the time of year. I went in May, and didnt see any. But its worth taking some repellent just incase...

Snorkelling Equipment

by Conflictrealms

If going to Sun Island, or infact any Maldivian Island, then be sure to take your own snorkelling equipment. You can hire it out there, but its not very nice not knowing whose mouth the mouthpiece has been in before yours. You can buy this equipment from home, or even at the shop on the island, for about the same prices you'd find in the UK.

Underwater Explorer Camera

by kirsty_lamb

An underwater camera may be of use in you are going scuba diving or snorkelling. You may be able to get one on your island. This is what we did as we hadn't though about it before, but we got some nice pics of some fish! Nice reminder of what it was like as it was our first time snorkelling.

Dont pack too much but remember the suncream!

As the island is so near (15 mins by speedboat) you can take a case (try and do a small one) you really wont need much, we took a case & a small holdall each and we had enough stuff by far. lightweight clothes, flip flops, nice sandals for evenings, sarongs, shorts, vest tops, but something to cover your shoulders when walking to lunch etc (as sun is so strong) HAT!!! (they do sell baseball caps & hats in shop tho) Men dress casual too in evenings (cas trousers/sometimes shorts) You may want aqua shoes or strap on old sandals for when in water as little bit sharp sometimes if you are further out. However be carefull not to step near and on the coral which is trying to reform itself!! Tablets for upset stomachs, savlon and plasters (anything really you can take in small amounts in case you fall ill) stuff for insect bits & an insect spray for evenings.(body shop green gel is the best -...

High prices at the hotel gift shop.

by trisanna

When we stayed at Club Rannalhi, we brought a tube of sunscreen, insect repellant and aloe vera gel for sunburns. We quickly ran out of the suncreen on the last day. At their gift shop-they were charging a lot of money for a tiny tube of sunscreen-around 20USD. I decided to go without it and suffered with a bad sunburn. Also, underwater cameras are twice what we paid for ours at Singapore's airport-around 20 usd. I know hotel gift shops mark things up, but this is too much. Load up on essentials before you arrive. Otherwise, there is a shop at the Male airport, which you can go to before you get the motorboat to the hotel.

Your packing list for Maldives

by fashionapple

Backpacks are ideal. There is no need to overpack because most of transportation is by boat / speedboat. Beachwear is must. Cotton shorts, shirts and bikini are ideal. While visiting Maale or any other local island you are recommended to wear proper dress covering body parts. Sandals and sun glasses are a must. Its better to bring all medicines and toiletries with you. Although you can buy them from Maale but they would be expensive for sure. Do bring sun screen with you in good quantity. Its recommended to bring digital camera. Still cameras would also work but their films are quite expensive in Maldives. Bring your swim suites and water sports gear with you.If you fly Emirates they would give 10 KG extra for this. Every thing is too expensive in Maldives so better bring all such things with you. I would also suggest you to bring strong deoderant / antiperspirant because of humid...
