Only take a few clothes

by wto

You don't need many clothes, so only take 1 lightweight case or bag. You only need shoes to travel to Meeru then back home. You don't need shoes here at all if you don't want. All floors are sandy. Take some cream for mosquito bites just in case. They say they hardly ever have them, but we did! Waterproof camera for those snorkelling or diving shots. Minimal clothing for the beach. Just T-Shirts, shorts and swimming gear.

Packing List - THINK HARD before you leave

by clop123

Luggage & Bags - I think this pretty much depends on the report. Over at Club Med, it didn't really make much of a difference as they took care of the luggage from the time they greeted us at the airport till the time we left the club. However, if you have dive equipment to carry around, you might not look forward to the walk to the dive jetty, which could be reasonably long sometimes... Clothing / Shoes / Weather Gear - As light as possible. Considering you might be spending a significant amount of time in the sea, do bring clothing that dries easily... Lotsa cotton Ts would also be comfy...SWIM GEAR - BUY THEM BEFORE YOU EVEN LEAVE HOME. I have heard stories of people who went to Maldives hoping to buy a set there only to spend their holidays uncomfortably without one!!! Toiletries - For those who are picky, bring EVERYTHING you need. Buying them on the island could be expensive or...

Must dive if you go for diving

by Fish_Fish

Diving Computer is a must, coz you easily go deeper than you think and beware of how long to stay.Floating flag (sausage)Many dirft dive in Maldive, it means you will assend away from the boat or easily away from the DM. Pack a few T-shirt and bring 3 set of swimming suit. Since we have 3 dives per day. We can have a quick shower after each dive and change the dry swimming suit and wait for another dive. Normally one to 2 hours. Bring the underwater camera. Or find a housing for your digital camera if you have. It's fun to share the picture after each dive.

Items to make your trip more enjoyable

You're going to get sand in everything, so bring something old. T-shirts, shorts, slippers and swimming gear of course. In the restaurant you can't go around in your swimming clothes. Insect repellant, band-aids for cuts on your feet from coral if you're not careful. Underwater cameras... they really work quite well. I was skeptical at first, but we managed to get some nice shots. A bit hard to aim though because you're bobbing around in the water when you snorkel. Just shoot and hope for the best. Get the cameras at home because they cost a lot of money at the resort. Bring your own snorkelling mask...we had one between my husband and I, and had to take turns using the hotel one (the thought of the many people who've had it in their mouths...!!!). Always use flippers because the coral cuts your feet. If you don't like flippers at least have those plastic shoes that we saw many...

Pack light!

by pauleast

Small case or holdall. You won't need much! Beach shoes as sand/coral can be rough on feet. But very lttle else needed. Leave boots and shoes at home you won't need them!Perhaps pack some training shoes if you are energetic and fancy the gym! Insect repellant and bite lotion.Lots and lots of sunscreen and after sun. Forget the make up bag ladies its too hot! Take aspirin etc as expensive to buy on tourist islands. Digital camera probably best -lots of beautiful scenes waiting to be snapped!Under water camera a must when snorkelling. Buy a cheap disposable on ethey work fine as it is so bright and clear underwater. Sunglasses and books! Take some CD's with you as the rooms have CD players. Remember to pack all toiletries etc as they are expensive to buy on the islands. Torch not required on this island as well lit at night but may get the odd power cut!

Hand luggage

by amycbox

Make sure you pack all you will need for anything up to 24 hours, as your suitcase is often sent to the resort by boat and you will more than likely be transported by sea plane. Therefore you could be without your things for a while. Light cotten clothes and some old T'shirts for snockelling and diving. If you go to Reethi Beach I can assure you that you will NOT need any shoes for your whole stay. Everywhere is sand floors!! Even the Bar. Take all medical stuff you think you will need, just in case as there is no where to really buy things like this. Underwater camera is a must, and plenty of film for the other camera, a video camera is also worth taking. Don't take too much stuff, you won't need it!!

Clothing and Accessories

We kept to an average sized suitcase each, remember it has to go on your boat or seaplane? and a backpack each to carry anything else youll need on the aircraft? Minimal is the best idea, anything light and loose, youll spend most of the day in trunks and the nights in shorts. Flip-Flops or similar, we had a good laugh at the women in high heels? and there were a few of them, each to thier own. But do remember the Mosquito spray and the plug-ins for the room, seen very few,but something was feasting on us. Again, dont forget the Mosquito spray, you can buy some on the island as we had to do when our supply ran out. The Vaseline lotion type was excellent...after we had been thoroughly eaten mind! Plenty high factor suncream and aftersun. Definitely, but youll be put to shame by our Asian counterparts as ive never seen so much equipment around one persons neck in my life, and every second...

Sun cream and Umbrellas!

by dhod

Light summer clothes as the weather is good all year round. On the smaller islands like Baros shoes aren't even required. The Maldives are located just 4 degrees above the equater where the sun is very powerful, take plenty of high factor sun cream. An umbrella may also be required, as this is a tropical area it can rain frequently, and extremely hard! Disposable underwater cameras are good for snorkelling photos. No topless or nude bathing as this is a muslim country. What not to take- this is a strict Muslim country and the import of Alcohol, pornography and religious artefacts is prohibited.

what to wear?

by o00o

Pack lots of tee shirts, beachwear, light skirts, cotton shirts, slacks and shorts. At the resorts where you?fll have to walk on soft sand most of the time, going barefoot may be ideal for some. However on visits to inhabited islands, where most of the streets are of compact sand, or Male?f where most of the streets are paved, casual shoes or sandals are easy to walk on.

Packing List

by keli99

Light summer clothing. Swimwear during the day, however, you must be clothed when dining. Insect repellant, there are mozzies even during the day in the wet season. Take your own Aspirin and band-aids as these are very expensive to buy from the resorts. With the stunning scenery, it is really hard to take a bad photo, so even the most basic camera equipment will do. If you have a sweet tooth, bring your own lollies as they are very expensive to buy on the island. Also, items in the shops are mostly in US dollars.
