Most islands are accessible only by boat, so pack your gear (not that you need much!) in a handy bag for lifting on and off a boat - you may not have to do it, but someone else may! If you enjoy paddling at the waters edge, watch out there are Stingrays. It may be advisable to wear some shoes in the water. Everything is available to buy in the resorts, but it may be cheaper to bring it with you. Suntan lotion, and tonnes of it. Being on the Equator, the sun is very strong all year round. And remeber, if you are snorkelling - your back is in the sun!! (This did not happen to me - luckily)

Don't take too much dresses with you: you'll spend most of the day laying in the sun with your swimsuit and a pareo. For the nights some simple dress is enough, but if you plan to have some trips outside the resorts take a long skirt or a pair of long trousers. Remember it's very hot and humid so bring natural materials and light colour dresses. You won't need any shoes as there is sand anywhere...so forget about heels! Bring something for mosquitos and any special drug you need (with the medical prescriptions); very often in the resorts you won't find neither a doctor nor a pharmacy so it's better to have with you the most common pills.

NOT TOO MUCH, ALTHOUGH IT'S NICE TO WEAR SMART CLOTHES IN THE EVENING IT IS GENERALLY TO HOT TO WEAR TROUSERS OR LONG DRESSES, AND DURING THE DAY ALL YOU WEAR IS YOUR SHORTS AND SARONGS.Honest it's only coke!! Not much, SUMMER GEAR ONLY MOST OF THE ISLANDS DO HAVE A SHOP OF SOME KIND WHICH SELLS TOILETRIES, BUT IT IS NICE TO HAVE YOUR OWN STUFF, THEY ALL ALSO HAVE SOME KIND OF SURGERY AND A DOCTOR ON SITE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME UNDERWATER CAMERAS WITH YOU SUNBEDS (FREE OF CHARGE)AND BEACH TOWELS PROVIDED,The sunbeds are cleaned for you twice a day. TRY AND BRING YOUR OWN SNORKELING GEAR, ALTHOUGH THIS IS PROVIDED FOR YOU IT'S NICE TO PUT YOUR LIPS AROUND YOUR OWN SNORKEL, AND TO KNOW WHERE IT'S BEEN

That's a photo of our bed..decorated with fresh flower petals..nice touch...No need to pack too much..just shorts and t-shirts, swimming gear..snorkel stuff...towels are provided ...both for washing, and sunloungers, soap, shampoo etc was in the room, minibars are expensive ($6 for a minature Bacardi) We only had two quick rain showers..after an hour you couldn't tell it had rained...even at night I only wore a t-shirt got bit a few times so take some spray..also go easy on the sun at first. take a few things like asprin and plasters(you can easily cut your feet if you step on some coral) there was a 3pin UK type plug in our bathroom.. Each room has two sunloungers, with plenty towels in your room..replaced daily You can take your mobile, but we only heard one all week..I think people used them in their rooms!!..we could receive text but couldn't send it..calls are expensive (and...

any bag will do.. there's not much backpacking.. so, it's more or less getting your luggage to and from the airport.. that's about it.. anything for the sun, sea and sand.. shorts.. flip flops.. and itsy bitsy bikini!! ;) even if you're working there, like me, the dress code is pretty informal.. jeans and t-shirt will do just fine.. for some fun in the sun, don't forget your swimmers!! it might be a good idea to get some essentials that you need.. the island you stay on may have some basic stuff.. but generally, you'll have to go to the town, most likely male, to get any special supplies.. bring whatever you need.. even if you can get it on the island, it's very expensive.. lots of sunscreen if you dun wanna get burnt..

We took hard-sided Samsonite suitcases. It really doesn't matter, as people help you at all times (for a dollar tip for each bag). T-shirts, shorts and sandles are all you'll need for the whole holiday. People who tried to dress-up for dinner, etc, were generally laughed at! They looked so out of place. Upset tummy tablets and some painkiller for cuts and bruises (from the coral mainly), etc. We had no problems with mossies at all, although on the main island there were sand flies. We took a digital camcorder and and 35MM camera, both with underwater housings. They are expensive, but worth every penny! All the bungalows have UK-style 3 square pinned sockets running at 230v. So you may need adaptors/transformers, etc. Plenty of sun cream! You may want a travel adaptor and a transformer if you don't have equipment that can run at 230v. There are shaver sockets in the bathroom.

TRAVEL LIGHTThe weather is always sunny and marvellous here, even in the rainy season. So bring a pair of swimming suits, a pair of T-Shirts and some sandals. Well, and maybe a party dress if you wanna have a romantic dinner with candles :-)))

any bag - but not too much inside!!! t-shirts, shorts, swim suits, snorkel+mask+fins, forget about shoes!!!!!!!!(exept in 5*-resorts) what you would take on any other trip as welland all dive centers on the islands do rent the equipment<but if you do not need your 'travel-health-kit' anymore when you return back home, all dive-bases are thankful, if you can leave that stuff there, as they always need something for the guests. bring films and batteriesare much more expensive and due to the climatebut also take empty stuff back home - recycling of garbage is still a problem on maldives! no campingno toplessno harpunsno alcohol when entering the country and in male (in tourist resorts only) try to collect your garbageempty plastic bottles of shampoo, sunmilk etc and try to take it back home garbage recycling is still a very big problem on the islands!

For some medicines you need an extra prescription from your doctor as a proof that you need these medicines.Toiletries: Sun protector with high SPF (at least 20) is essential! Bring enough film rolls. They can be purchased without any problem but prices are really prohibitive. If you intend to go snorkeling, bring your own mask, snorkel and fins. It does not take much place in your suitcase and renting costs abt. 10 US$ daily.Money: The local Maldives currency is the Rufiaa. However everything on the islands is paid in US$, so don't change your currency into Ruffiaa because you can do nothing with it. In fact you pay everything with a credit card at the end of your stay. Do bring some US$ for the usual tips and for some small things you might want to buy in Malé.Tipping: your waiter in the restaurant as well as your room boy expect their tip (or at least large part of it) on the...

Hard covered suite cases are the best for long distance travel. One pair flip flops or casual sandals. Mostly you will be bare foot. Bathing suits, shorts, tank tops, wraps for the ladies or you can buy them cheap on the tourist resorts. Men trunks for swimming and tshirts. If you decide to go to a 5 star you might want to bring evening clothes. Most resorts are casual but simple casual is the best for the rest. Shampoo, cream rinse, toothpaste (do not run out) it is expensive to buy on the resort shop 5 us dollars. Mosquito repelent (lots of it) and lots of sun tan lotion ( the sun is extremely hot an one can burn quickly). Some resorts do not supply body soap so check to see or pack your own. Lots of film. 220 volts is used in most of the maldives so bring a travel converter. Fins, snorkel and mask as they might be expensive to hire for your stay.
